Tone doesn't communicate well via text, but I'm actually just confused. I have seen the clip a bunch of places, but didn't find it newsworthy then or now. I'm genuinely surprised someone would think it needs *more* attention. I tried to communicate why it feels so banal to me - guess it didn't work.

A 2021 survey found that about ~65% of Americans believe aliens exist. Only 52% of Americans believe in human-driven climate change (U Chicago 2025). Obama agreeing with 2/3 of the country isn't a revelation.

Um...are you talking about Obama saying aliens "are real, but I haven't seen them"? Basically agreeing with the Drake equation (proposed in 1961)? What's there to talk about? It's not news for a former president to have scientific views.

From my partner (not in quantum field theory): the reason that the theory is they're "rolled up small" is because that is what is shown to be mathematically possible. What you're suggesting probably hasn't been suggested because it's probably not mathematically possible.

Picked my partner's brain; he thinks it's field-specific. There are way more astronomers on bsky because visual media engages more and can communicate more info in fewer chars, while quantum field theory, for example, has a small potential audience and is v challenging to communicate in this format.

I'd say post it. *Somebody* will see it.

Was it more prevalent on X, suggestion a migration issue, or is this a short form platform issue broadly? Most physicists I know want more nuance than 240 chars offers.

My partner is a physicist and I'm pretty sure it's because he has very large teams he's regularly talking to; there isn't such a desire to send thoughts "into the ether", as it were, if you can just text or email an expert. (He also doesn't use bsky much in general, which may be a bigger factor.)

It is pretty pervasive, but I have found some good people there. It's the most common tag, so we have to put our voices in the spaces to attract like-minded people. But I suspect AI promoters use the spaces differently from AI-haters.

TEXT: I was Alex Pretti’s final nursing student. He was my friend and my nursing mentor. For the past four months, I stood shoulder to shoulder with him during my capstone preceptorship at the Minneapolis VA Hospital. There he trained me to care for the sickest of the sick as an ICU nurse. He taught me how to care for arterial and central lines, the intricacies of managing multiple IVs filled with lifesaving solutions, and how to watch over every heartbeat, every breath, and every flicker of life, ready to act the moment they wavered. Techniques intended to heal. Alex carried patience, compassion and calm as a steady light within him. Even at the very end, that light was there. I recognized his familiar stillness and signature calm composure shining through during those unbearable final moments captured on camera. It does not surprise me that his final words were, “Are you okay?” Caring for people was at the core of who he was. He was incapable of causing harm. He lived a life of healing, and he lived it well. Alex believed strongly in the Second Amendment and in the rights rooted in our Constitution and its amendments. He spoke out for justice and peace whenever he could, not only out of obligation, but out of a belief that we are more connected than divided, and that communication would bring us together.

TEXT: I want his family to know his legacy lives on. I am a better nurse because of the wisdom and skills he instilled in me. I carry his light with me into every room, letting it guide and steady my hands as I heal and care for those in need. People already working hard to prove how perfect Alex Pretti was. To show he didn't "deserve" to be killed. But it's a trap folks. You're only feeding into a dynamic where people who are considered lesser get no protection. You don't have to be an Alex Pretti to deserve to live.
