No worries, that's the beautiful thing about SSB, someone is always testing out something, and we all get to see it happen!

Some #solarpunk stuff:

Way Out West's channel on Youtube does some cool projects: a human-sized railway, a peddle car, an induction heater, and various engines.

If you want a break from the doom, their latest vid is about making a cart for the garlic harvest: www.youtube.com/watch?v=lBd0...

Convivial Tools
Introduced by philosopher Ivan Illich, the concept of "convivial tools" refers to technologies that serve personal freedom and creativity rather than creating dependency. A convivial tool is simple, accessible, and controlled by the user, not by a large institution.
Prime examples include a repairable bicycle that provides autonomy, or open-source software that anyone can modify. These stand in contrast to complex, opaque systems like the wider car industry or proprietary software that lock users into a dependent relationship. The goal is to ensure technology enhances human creativity, keeping people in control of their tools.

Simple, user-controlled technologies designed to empower individual creativity and freedom, rather than making people dependent on complex, industrial-scale systems.

Everyone: "Default feed algorithms with the incentive to keep people in the app longer are dangerous and will bring the downfall of democracy and society as we know it."

Also, everyone: "Bluesky will die if it doesn't have a good default algorithm that keeps people in the app longer."

My Country, by Rail Yard Ghosts from the album Terrorist Union #63

This is about as patriotic as I can get today.

"My country 'tis of thee, dark land of slavery..."

Last few times I've tried to upload an image, it hasn't worked, just what appears to be a placeholder. The first image I tried to upload was a jpg, the next two were png. All three of them were not that large of files (100-500kb). Any thoughts on how to troubleshoot?

A simple illustration for the pattern for Japanese farmers pants. The first step is two rectangles of fabric, from which a triangle is cut from each to form the crotch. In the next step, the sides of the rectangle pieces are sewed together to make the side seams. The two triangles are sewed together to make a diamond shape. The final step is sewing the diamond shape into the crotch section to complete the pants.

I wrote a mini essay on my adventures in making my own clothes: davidbaunach.com/writings/a-s...

In particular, I'm proud of the minimalist illustration on how to put together the Japanese farmers pants: davidbaunach.com/images/farme...

Two browser tabs open. One has Mastodon open, and uBlock Origin doesn't report blocking anything. In the other, Bluesky is open, and uBlock Origin is reporting 47 things blocked.

TechpriestBaunach (@TechpriestBaunach@vivaldi.net) # What I'm Listening To Found some new (and/or new to me) music over the last few days. Quite different from my typical fare, but they're all fun in their own right. Happened across this one first: ...

Got a post too long for Bluesky, so I'll link to it over on the Fediverse.

Stumbled across some new (and new to me) music in the last few days:

I tried to figure out adding rss to my site. Here's what I came up with:
davidbaunach.com/rss.xml
And it sort of works. Works on one reader, breaks another.

I'm open to any thoughts or corrections or directions! My goal is to keep it as simple as possible, but I'm fine adding a few things.

Made these (re-imaginings of a few of the Stations of the Cross) last year during Lent, unfortunately all three are still relevant:

Nothing new under the sun.

Been in a bunch of meetings recently, so some doodling had to happen. Mixed a few different techniques I've used before, I'm digging the mix:

It's really hard to find a QR code generator that doesn't absolutely suck so I've made my own, I'll put it up online if anyone is interested

Why We’re Bringing Pebble Back Eight years later, you still can’t beat a Pebble

I bought every Pebble that ever came out and I will happily do so again once they re-launch. Easily the best smartwatch experience I've ever had.

IMO, the most revolutionary thing @obsidian.md could do rn, is modify the gemini protocol to use Obsidian markdown, and create the Obsidian web.

Reminder, or introduction to those too new to know it -- Bluesky culture is to report and block trolls. Don't feed trolls with responses. They live to get a rise out of us. Deprive them of oxygen on Bluesky and they will go elsewhere.

Wiby - Search Engine for the Classic Web Wiby is a search engine for older style pages, lightweight and based on a subject of interest. Building a web more reminiscent of the early internet.

This is a search engine that only indexes websites that don’t use JavaScript which means all its results are gnarly old sites that are decades old. I love it.
