BlueSCSI: Not Just for Apple

All things Apple Mac from the Millennium era. We cover that golden time from 1997 to 2010 when some of Apple’s best and most radical designs were born. We occasionally cover earlier and later stuff too.
Remember that time we installed Windows 11 on a Sun UNIX workstation?

Many thanks to @mac84.bsky.social, @oldskool.org, VCF Midwest and anyone unfortunate enough to have been caught in the audience!
Got a PowerPC #Macintosh and no idea what to do with it? If so, watch this video!

This Macintosh SE/30 board looked pretty clean after the ultrasonic bath. But after recapping, it gave me a simasimac. This long short shows my battle against corrosion and other nonsense with help from Rudy's Retro Intel's SE/30 Peeker board: youtube.com/shorts/7bX-M...

24.09.2025 20:25 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I've made a GitHub repository (ugh, I know) to document my findings on the SpectraGen series.
Includes scripts for doing stuff with your Spectragen, too! WOO HOO.
Be gentle: I'm not a git/github user.
As someone who's been in bed almost all day feeling like heck, yeah, me too.

A picture of a purple Apple Jonathan sitting on a desk, with some very 80s/90s bits of gear around it. Apple and EA posters, some pencil lights, a beocom phone. Just all the goods.
Sometimes it's nice to revisit old friends.
24.09.2025 03:05 — 👍 114 🔁 8 💬 16 📌 1One of my favorite #Amiga features: being able to pull down a screen to see what’s running behind it (without missing a beat).
In this case I have a high res interlaced workbench with a non interlaced Infinity Music Player running behind it and then an interlaced Directory Opus behind that.
Just finished a very interesting and frustrating Mac SE/30 repair. It drew half the screen properly interspersed with garbage. And the system would randomly lock up. The screen issues were caused by a bad LS393, and the random lockups were caused by the 8530 chip. #VintageMac

20.09.2025 07:52 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I picked up a brown $5 Macintosh IIsi at #VCFMW. It had some battery and capacitor leakage / corrosion. The electronics have been through the citric acid ultrasonic bath, so let's see how things have cleaned up and if we can get it to boot. Saturday noon eastern. youtube.com/live/blxlf4I...

Interesting to nobody: I have rev-engineered the batch-send process of the Texscan MSI CompuVID Spectragen 4B titler/chargen system and have a Python script that successfully completes a full serial communications cycle.
Why is this important?

What makes Bluesky different: it’s open source, so anyone can contribute to building the experience they want. And even if you build a whole new app, the protocol means you can migrate with your data, identity, and relationships intact.

18.09.2025 21:04 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0I had a blast and got some neat stuff at #VCFMW last weekend. Let's start going through my acquisitions including a Performa 630 logic board, Centris 610 logic board, the brownest IIsi ever, and a Power Mac 9500 video editing workstation. 3:30 eastern today. youtube.com/live/pzNRG3-...

18.09.2025 21:00 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0A photo of a small weird cube shaped beige mac with wacky design. It's badged as a Power Macintosh 4200/75, and its front is divided into three sections; a logo/badge area, a cdrom above that, and a floppy drive above that. It looks singularly unexciting, but of the era and is against a white background like the most white-background of promo shots.
The Power Macintosh G2 Cube shown here with the higher-end 75Mhz PPC603, memory slot, and LC-PDS compatible expansion was an addition to the Macintosh family.
