I recently watched "Paint Your Wagon" for the first time since I was a child in honor of my Mom who recently passed away. It was one of her favorite films and she always had a thing for Lee Marvin. The soundtrack was commonly in rotation at home. I still think the soundtrack stands up well.

Welp, today I dropped out of all of the Discord groups I'm a member of except for the last two which are family related and I'm in the process of setting up a self hosted solution to have running by the end of the month so family can all jump ship together. I also cancelled Nitro. Nuf's'enough.

So anyone discussing for instance mental health issues where they might be discussing a past trauma will have a higher chance of having their sessions monitored than before. Atleast this is how I understood the explaination that was given to me today.

It's much more alarming than people are giving it credit. So up till now a user chat session was fairly safe from hightened screening unless it was covering something illegal, CSAM, bioweapon. Now because of the new way to monitor the model, if the model shows surprise/alarm that will trigger scans.

This same dynamic is at play now in the fantasy money in B2B transactions around RAM, etc... why would a RAM supplier try to sell individual sticks of RAM to consumers with all that overhead when an institution will pay premium at volume that's still can be discounted...

As this gap increases the incentive to sell B2c (small "c" for small consumer) at volume gets less and less strategic from a business perspective and literally not make sense from a profit model.

When you wonder how companies can ignore people. Remember this: 1 widget to 0.1%er for a million $s can have 99% profit and be pocket change to the buyer. Why would you choose to make 1 million widgets where the overall profit may only be 5%-10% and 1 million finicky customers?

Elon's Wikipedia knock off is a hot mess of AI hallucinations and information voids. I just wasted 30 minutes of my life there doing evaluation and sweet googly moogly we are just destroying the breadth of human knowledge breathtakingly fast.

I did my first install of Linux (Linux Mint Cinnamon) on a new laptop instead of Windows 11 for a family member. We're all kind of done with Windows. I setup all the photo editing software they need, Minecraft and Steam. They're going to let me know if they have issues. Hopefully this goes smooth.

It isn't standard practice though. So many DVDs were just digitized from laserdisc, and Blu-ray's were upscaled from DVDs, so no it's not standard practice. Especially on older films unless they have already been under preservation.

Yeah but is it an upscale or rescan from the original prints. That's what needs included in these announcements.

That moment when you deep down in the pit of your being realize that there comes a day for everyone when they are not coming back home. Not just in a theoretical sense but standing in the home of a dying family member and knowing they will never be back to this place. Everything changes always.

Anyone have luck recovering Amiga floppies? I finally got a DrawBridge earlier this year and my success rate on reading my disks is running at 10%-20%. Granted they haven't been stored in the best of conditions but that seems awful low. Looking for any advice or tips.
