These programs weren't set up this way simply for the benefit of recipients. They are by design also a subsidy for American agriculture. That's the longstanding red-blue, rural-urban political deal of it. Like how they're getting nuked by the trade war, they are cannibalizing their own coalition.

I always read folks' view that Buttigieg was unwilling to fight as misinterpreting the way he's not afraid of managing conflict.

It's why he goes on Fox, he's not avoiding the conflict he's trying to set up circumstances so that he can manage it. He clearly likes to *manage* things.

BTW National Guard is in its wheelhouse in local emergencies doing things like traffic control. They could just put up barricades around the neighborhoods where ICE wants to get in. It wouldn't be aggressive or anything.

But I think it is instructive that he THINKS he's following Goebbels' lead.

I strongly object to the comparison many are making these days between Stephen Miller and Joseph Goebbels.

I think it's deeply misguided, and unfair, to compare them.

Goebbels was a far better propagandist, and didn't execute much policy.

Miller far more closely resembles Heinrich Himmler.
