Loving Death By Lightning. We need more men with mutton chops called Roscoe. And Matthew Macfadyen is so so good at playing dickheads.

Just watched #TheRoses and absolutely loved it! Positively surprised. Wonderfully dark sweary British humour. Not as brutal as the original. Want the house.
09.11.2025 19:42 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0No I am not cool enough for that. Hugely literal.
09.11.2025 17:03 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Just catching up on the two films I walked out of at LFF
09.11.2025 16:56 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Finally finished #Anemone. Stand by my decision to walk out. Fuck all happens for two hours then it goes all magic realist and bonkers. The end.
09.11.2025 15:06 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Finally finished #Hedda. I stand by my decision to walk out. A lot of bold choices being made by Nia DaCosta so she shows courage. But those choses made me feel as though I was engaged with the characters. All style and blammo.
09.11.2025 14:07 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0We only get one moment of real humour 90 mins in and one moving song just before the end. I did not laugh and barely cried. If the first part had one decent song in Popular and maybe Defying Gravity this part had zero bangers. I genuinely wonder why this is such a popular musical.
#Wicked
#WickedForGood - obviously I am not the target demographic for this. The first part had only one decent song but did make me cry as we established the core relationship between Glinda and Elphaba at the OzDust ball. This part suffers for qbeing a downer and having to keep them apart for most of it.
08.11.2025 17:48 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Superficial but Goring was also much thinner by the time he stood trial. Presumably Crowe did not want to slim down. Also I have to check but I dont think Goring WAS the highest ranking Nazi. Wasnโt it Donitz?
#Nuremberg
#Nuremberg - trite, condescending, tonally jarring, 30 mins too long, and Rami Malek deeply annoying as always. I had feared that Russell Crowe playing a Tcherman would be embarassing but he was superb. The heart of the film is Leo Woodall and he is good. The British barrister was done dirty.
07.11.2025 20:52 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Finally got around to reading the first edition of EE72 and thereโs a great interview - Clooney asking Julia Roberts about #AfterTheHunt.
I continue to be intrigued by the film.
A meditative patient film from Paolo Sorrentino about love, grief and grace.
It stars Toni Servillo in an acting masterclass that rightly won him the Volpi Cup at Venice.
#LFF #LaGrazia
This milquetoast garbled low budget adaptation sucks and it breaks my heart. Because 100 Nights Of Hero is exactly the inspirational feminist queer sex-positive story we need right now.
#LFF #100NightsOfHero
Jennifer Lawrence is astonishingly good as a new mother grappling with mental illness in Lynne Ramsayโs darkly funny and devastating Die My Love.
#LFF #DieMyLove #JenniferLawrence
David Michodโs film is a compelling biopic of Americaโs first boxing star. Sydney Sweeney announced herself as a major acting talent.
#LFF #SydneySweeney #Christy
Guillermo Del Toroโs Frankenstein is a stunning visual spectacle but ultimately did not rip my heart out, as it should.
#LFF #Frankenstein
Pantheon director Park Chan Wook returns to our screens with the darkest of black comedies and social satires. Itโs hilarious and occasionally deeply moving and sends a dire warning to all of us wage-slaves.
#LFF #NoOtherChoice
RENTAL FAMILY is a delightful, heartwarming and laugh-out-loud funny film that flirts with a social critique of contemporary Japanese society but is ultimately uninterested in anything gritty. Its message is rather trite but it still hits home in such dark and divisive times.
#RentalFamily #LFF
Really? Good to hear.
15.10.2025 20:35 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Urgent and required viewing. Why investigative journalism matters. A pattern of abuse of power and cover up from My Lai to Abu Ghraib to Gaza.
Seymour Hersch is a hero and this new doc reminds us why.
#LFF #Cover-Up
Really loved Derek Cianfranceโs Roofman but itโs a far more straightforward slightly melancholy romantic drama than the dayglow marketing of a gonzo crime caper would suggest. Channing Tutum utterly charming. Kirsten Dunst heartbreaking.
#Roofman #LFF
Bradley Cooperโs new film Is This Thing On? is an absolutely delightful romantic dramedy about proper grown ups with proper problems in their marriage. Itโs nuanced and funny and earns its sweet moments. High recommended.
#LFF #BradleyCooper
ANEMONE is a decent 3.5 star 95 minute drama trapped inside a dour, dull 2hr 2-star film. It's all style over substance, as if a blue colour palette, smash-cuts to super-loud music and super-slow push-ins on Daniel Day-Lewis' face can make up for a lack of plot progression.
#LFF #Anemone
Kelly Reichardtโs THE MASTERMIND is an odd film. Itโs beautifully constructed and has her typically restrained, measured tone. But its central character is so selfish, smug and feckless, itโs hard to know what to do with the filmโs requirement for us to engage with his story.
#LFF #TheMasterMind
Julia Roberts gives the performance of her life in Luca Guadagninoโs slippery complex and provocative After The Hunt. Not without its flaws but so so so intelligent.
#LFF #AfterTheHunt
Chloe Zhaoโs adaptation of Maggie OโFarrellโs beloved story #Hamnet is a thing of rare beauty. Jessie Buckley gives the performance of her life as Shaekspeareโs grieving wife and Paul Mescal is heartbreakingly good too.
#LFF
After sitting through Amanda Seyfried butchering Mancunian last night I just couldnโt endure #Hedda.
I wonder if Tessa Thompson was trying to do Vanessa Kirby in The Crown?
I think itโs the worst on-screen British accent since Dick Van Dyke in Mary Poppins.
#LFF
Tessa Thompson produces a career-ending attempt at a British accent in #Hedda. Walked out after 30 mins. She said one line and I knew it was over. Should have walked out then. Were the British cast too polite to mention it?
#LFF
The Testament of Ann Lee is a shockingly sincere, incurious film, with zero interiority or emotional depth. Beautifully shot, staged and choreographed. But for what? #LFF
