I have witnessed this. No explanation given to unrepresented. Terrible approach chills court attendance. Wastes resources.

In case the senseless, McCarthyite crackdown on students’ free expression wasn’t shameful enough, here’s an additional reminder: student journalists are quitting their publications and asking to take down previously published work because of possible retribution. www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025...

From my inbox: USCIS says it will scrutinize immigrants' social media for "antisemitism" when considering immigration benefits – but antisemitism here is construed enormously broadly.

New pod: Sotomayor's warning that Trump admin could remove US citizens in "error" with no recourse was echoed by a judge appointed by *Reagan.* Time to take it seriously.

Wish I could join colleagues celebrating a new book by Professor Rebecca Sharpless. Available at: www.ucpress.edu/book/9780520...
Her book retells the story of fighting to stop an ICE deportation flight and the Somalians aboard the plane. It is vivid and let's us see into the removal process.

Immigration courts don't have enough judges, but they also don't have enough *attorneys*. The increase in new cases has led to a massive decline in representation rates from 65% to just 30%. Even ICE doesn't have enough attorneys to cover all the cases.

Yes! Louis F. Post's book "The Deportations Delirium of Nineteen-twenty: A Personal Narrative of an Historic Official Experience.Β United States:Β C.H. Kerr. " is available to read. Julia's book is a deep and careful discussion of this history. Post's bravery to protect the rule of law is inspiring!
