Robert Duvall, man. What a sprawling, wonderful career. I remember catching JACK REACHER in the Bahamas (with the BEST audience!) & what a delightful surprise, to have him backing up Tom Cruise in the film's finale! He'll always be Tom Hagen to me. His absence in THE GODFATHER III is insurmountable.

Well quite, given who owns the platform. I just realized that my most recent Twitter posts were still dated to the end of last year. Going forward, it's probably gonna stay that way.

Their whole support center isn't easy to navigate either, it's become really user-unfriendly as a platform.

I just gave their Help Center a try, re-iterating the facts of your situation. What a drag! Fingers crossed I get some kind of response!

I had the privilege of seeing Wiseman give a talk at the Toulouse Cinémathèque for the screening of his film EX LIBRIS: NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY. He seemed singularly unimpressed when the poor moderator mentioned Trump, & was much more interested in discussing a police brutality story in LAW & ORDER.

RIP the great Frederick Wiseman, who I really thought would live forever. As much of an institution as the communities & civic organisations he profiled over 6 decades. His films were uncommonly immersive & direct: no interviews, no voiceover narration - just quiet eavesdropping on the day-to-day.

I rewatched Titicut Follies at the weekend, and it's emblematic of the many Frederick Wiseman films that followed his 1967 debut. They unflinchingly hold insitutions to account, while still championing heart and humanity. A true independent artist and one of the great American filmmakers.

Is Sam Raimi a fan of MEAN GIRLS? I wonder...

Rachel McAdams is absolutely fantastic in Sam Raimi's SEND HELP, putting that radiant smile to all sorts of weirdo, wicked uses. As with THE HOUSEMAID though, this is the kind of fun 90-minute genre movie that unfortunately takes 2 hours to watch.

So when De Niro's thief approaches him for a bank heist, Haysbert says "Fuck it", shoves Cort's manager out of the way & goes along for the job despite assuring his girlfriend he'd stay clean. And ultimately gets himself killed. It's a tiny human vignette in such a sprawling film, but rings so true.
