From the same commentator (Champion) who said we won the ECWC in 1987. It was 85. We won the league again in 87.

He's just embarrasingly bad at his job and always has been.

YouTube video by BBC Archive 1984: The FALLOUT From THREADS | Did You See? | Classic TV Review | BBC Archive

Watched it on Saturday after having sworn I'd never watch it again. It's an incredible piece of film-making and agree everyone should see it.

This is worth a watch in terms of the 1984 reaction. Mary Midgely is good.

Five years ago, the NBA was set to return β€” in Orlando.

"Outside, audiences were entertained by competition in isolation. Inside, players and executives battled opponents and the mental challenge of not being able to leave."

I wasn't best pleased when having had an accessible parking space for the past few years and a Blue Base membership I had to go in a ballot this year and didn't get a space, probably like a lot of people. Going to be fun and games working out how to get to the match with my needs tbh.

Yep, one thing people keep saying to me is 'they can't charge that when we're not winning' and they just have no grasp of what randoms will pay for the 'PL experience'. Club is becoming a very different entity to what it was. The price of gambling on competitiveness is losing your soul these days.

TFG are up for changing this it seems. Last few years in particular have been hard on the WSL side too, but it looks TFG keen to add players/resources.

Trying to think. Not many here either.

Larry David a mate of mine IRL now, Pineda Pete gone the game with me, I sorted quite a few for tickets but never met them (digital world we live in). I was 18/19 when rivals very first got going so I suppose we were first generation 'socialised' in that way.

Delusions for players also meet reality in the window and I think we'll get a higher calibre of loan than we have been getting towards the end of it as it shakes out.

Lukaku in 2013 probably the best loan we have ever had, think Everton can realistically aspire to better than we have lately.

Players would deffo be better off playing for us than sitting on the bench for a UCL club but the latter equals more wedge for the agent and every young lad backs himself. They wouldn't be where they are if they didn't.

On a positive note.../3

Never thought there would be a big leap this year purely because the amount of changes and the trauma of the last few. Moyes has done a great job so far, but Buckland's point that there's still further to go to convince players to come is valid. & people are right to say footballers are daft too. /2

Been reading a lot posts this morning on the signings issue, and whilst I think we did very well to get Barry, particularly so soon after losing out on Delap, I think what's sinking in is having an amazing new stadium isn't the draw for players some fans thought it was and it will take time. /1

In terms of totals Harrison played in 34/38 games and Lindstrom in 25/38. I don't think either was good enough, but I think people have memory-holed them because of that. They played enough, and Moyes started Lindstrom once he came in until Lindstrom got injured.

30.07.2025 09:57 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

To your point, Harrison and Lindstrom played 59 league games between them last season for Everton. Harrison 24 starts, 10 sub, Lindstrom 15 starts, 10 sub. Certainly in Harrison's case 24/38 - would equal 'regular starter'. He also started 25 the year before.

Not defending article at all but people are also thinking about the loans. Squad was in such a state Lindstrom & Harrison were playing regularly. So big issues at RW. Also areas where we were under-strength before (RB). 100% hear you & loans will shake out towards end of window, which people forget.

I'm still optimistic but I remember on two occasions in the 2000s the club letting players go only to re-sign them later

Think this is spot on. I was totally comfortable with a keeper coming out, pick your spot or dink it over, became a wreck with pens.

17.07.2025 22:09 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

I was a fairly decent finisher when I played up front, particularly one on one, but had exactly this problem.

Coach in the end told me to 'aim for the post'. You can guess what happened next.

Absolutely shit at pens I was.

Tbf to him he won't have written that headline, journos don't write them. He'll likely have written a story about Branthwaite staying and the editor/sub-editor has done him wrong.

…It hits me hard a few times a week how little people realize how fast, athletic, driven & smart Bill Russell was as a player.

We often talk about Michael Jordan’s killer instinct & Kobe Bryant’s Mamba Mentality but it was Bill Russell who was the God Of Mind Games, Gamesmanship & Manipulation.

Who got the better of Wilt, I wonder.
