One of my favorite buildings here in Cleveland. The Hart Building is only 9 feet wide!

Originally the HQ of a furniture maker, built in 1868. Its facade is cast iron. Later the HQ of a biz that made scales, engines, pumps, and windmills. It's now apartments! Noisy club district though.

If you know basic kabbalah it's actually not too hard to make a golem out of a labubu. Don't recommend it though. They have a pre-existing body-dharma. As soon as they wake they run straight for the sea. V hard to counter. Lost the first one. No idea what it's doing out there. Moved like lightning.

Creatures buried in soil for over a century burst back to life in Toronto waterfront A project to restore coastal wetland leads to astonishing discoveries of a host of life: seeds and plant scraps, as well as water fleas, worms, larvae and plankton

The way Ookwemin Minising is bouncing back as soon as the colonizing dirt is scraped off feels like the kind of metaphor that gets so big it becomes reality. I hope it does.

I love living in a city full of immigrants and tons and tons of people who are not at all like me and not like each other. It makes us all better and it makes our city better. I know I’m preaching to the choir by saying this on the lib app but I sometimes just get so overwhelmed by how special it is

a comic that looks like a retro back of a magazine ad that says "do you have one piece of trivia that you love to whip out in conversations?"
A floating young man's head says "Did you know Roger Ebert wrote Beyond The Valley of The Dolls?"
A floating young woman's head responds "the drummer from Fall Out Boy is an 'anarcho-primativist'"

Big text says "EVERYONE ALREADY KNOWS! It's not interesting!
Gain real knowledge today!"

Even bigger text says "Descend into your city's sewers!"
Slightly smaller text says "enter a world of esoteric truths while you wind your way through a labyrinth of forgotten catacombs!"

A second young man, sticking out of a manhole, covered in gloop and smoking a pipe gives testimony: "I've seen things down here you people wouldn't believe!
Beneath our feet, a world beyond your comprehension.
The secrets shared with me by the mole people are worth more than 100 years of schooling!"

Finally, text at the bottom says "Impress your friends! Terrify your neighbors! You'll be the life of every party!"

Scan of a typed letter from 1970, from Peanuts creator Charles Schulz, addressed to "Joel Lipton, 622 N. Foothill Road, Beverly Hills, Calif. 90210"

It reads:

"Dear Joel:

I think it is more difficult these days to define what makes a good citizen than it has ever been before. Certainly all any of us can do is follow our own conscience and retain faith in our democracy. Sometimes it is the very people who cry out the loudest in favor of getting back to what they call "American Virtues" who lack this faith in our country.

I believe that our greatest strength lies always in the protection of our smallest minorities.

Sincerely yours,

Charles M. Schulz"

An alien looking flower with whorls and purple petals, next to the fruit growing on an adjacent vine

I want to get maypops growing next year but I don’t think I have the sun for it. Maybe I can convince my dad to grow them for me but I fear they’re hard to get started. Hmmm.

It’s just so cool to have a passionflower native to PA, and I *love* eating passion fruit.

Anybody have luck with these?

Bryophytes hold a larger gene family space than vascular plants - Nature Genetics A super-pangenome analysis incorporating 123 newly sequenced bryophyte genomes reveals that bryophytes exhibit a larger number of unique and lineage-specific gene families than vascular plants.

Here's 123 new bryophyte genomes for you!
Apparently, bryophytes time and again include microbial genes in their genomic repertoire, and occupy a langer gene space than vascular plants.

#OTD 19 September 1991, walkers in the high Γ–tztal alps on the Italian border, found a body melting out of the ice. It turned out to be the remains of a c.5200 year old man preserved with all his kit.
Of course, it was essential to replicate him in Playmobil.

The buff-tip moth (Phalera bucephala) has mastered a very particular kind of camouflage.

When they close their wings up, they resemble a broken twig.

Native to large parts of Europe, there's regional pattern variation that reflects the local tree species. This one best resembles birch twigs?

Early spring, while Dad was in his final stages of cancer, I went back to my block bird art & gave my mind the task to reduce the birds more, using circles this time. I ended up doing 36 warblers, making these WORBS as a result. Realized I never shared them here, so short thread. IDs in alt. 1/3
