It's ripe for abuse by predators for sure!
But it has no power apart from the people who trust it blindly and act accordingly.
People who are emotionally motivated are easier to motivate. Fans of sports or musicians are another great example.
Predators are the problem though, not their victims.

It's clear people used religion to justify ways they hurt you, and I am sorry for that. I truly am. I abandoned religion myself a long time ago because of the ways it was being used to justify awful things.
