I expected leaving Amazon to be really inconvenient, but so far I think there's been one item we could not purchase anywhere else because Amazon was the only importer to Canada. I just miss PBS Masterpiece *weeps*

I had the immense honour to work on this book at several different points in its development over the years. An *essential* ethnography of migrant childhood. Buy it. Read it. Gabrielle knows the job. This work has never been more urgent.

it's that I have a visceral reaction to the image of bouncing a newborn without properly supporting the head. they are like floppy sacks of potatoes. the once-parent-of-newborns in me is screaming.

A minor quibble to be sure but for the love of god, editors, you can't bounce a newborn on your hip. They are way too floppy for that. You're looking at like maybe 6mos before they have the trunk and neck strength. Get it together.

Yeah I'm personally not a fan, but I have also not been sure if this is traditionally within the scope of peer review. I do think it sometimes veers into insulting the author's writing, and that I take issue with. Tactfully suggesting the author engage a line editor would be more effective.

I realize this question is not for me, but when I see that peer reviewers have done this (which has been rare), I am like wow buddy stay in your lane. I worry about what this can do to an author's confidence, and like it is enough to say hey, this MS could use editing beyond the scope of CE.

A History of Torture in Mexico's War against Subversives In the same way that impunity reigns today, it reigned supreme in 1970s Mexico. Gladys McCormick writes about how state-sponsored torture became routine practice in the Mexican government's war…

For #LASA2025, we are fortunate to share original content from our authors.

"The depth of impunity in Mexico allowed for unimaginable forms of terror that implicated vast swaths of the population."
