I had to read the theadline a couple times. A vulkan extension to improve directX on linux kinda required to mental gymnastics to parse.
It does make sense in the context of dxvk and all, but it does sound weird at face value

Yeah that seems like a better game. You can play sim city hundreds of hours, and pretty sure Contra3 doesnโ€™t hold up to that :-)

I've only briefly looked at that when I was building the rom, but the title screen display code seems to be called from the method start in attract.mac.
Might also want to compare reset.mac init to what the dumped rom does. The code that display the proto screen is still in there but commented out.

yeah sounds like it. I just display the colors as-is. I guess the rad color was always correct, but their conversion was wrong at some point and they fixed it
