Approximately half of the chaste (aka vitex) berries of my first harvest, drying in the sun.
They've already been washed, dried for several days, now peeled and left to dry for a few more days.

I'm still cleaning the other half, it's wildly fussy but calming too.

This particular one caught me- then I realized it's because approximately 80% of my wardrobe I've sewn falls under these shades..
I live in these colors.

We also attempted growing Weld this year - this was the only one to sprout from the pack, finally doing well

Next year will either harvest for yellow dye, or let it go to seed and try again for larger crop

Another post for #SciArtSeptember day 29: Plate 96 from Kunstformen der Natur (1904) by Ernst Haeckel depicting a variety of marine annelid worm species. It is labeled Chaetopoda, an obsolete taxonomical term. A favorite, it looks even more striking in person.

Saw this gorgeous Eastern Tiger Swallowtail #butterfly (had to look up what kind it was), next to a monarch on our chaste tree today

A painting from 2023, I really liked trying to portray translucency here. I referenced a hare skull in front of a lamp, and extrapolated how the lighting would look with a full skeleton.

On the flip side, I feel like it's evolutionary- humans were meant to stagger sleep patterns to keep night watch and fires lit. Our brains just have a couple hours delay in getting sleepy, ready to take first watch.

As far as sleep disorders go, it's never mentioned and certainly not understood or accommodated.. and can affect employment, taking daily medication, every aspect of scheduled responsible life.. I literally cannot isolate an hour of the day I'll be consistently awake for as weeks pass.

Unusual (cyclical) circadian rhythm: do you have one?
My son seems to have inherited mine, but I never hear it discussed- are other people sharing this hell??

(We have 26-28 hour days instead of 24, couple hours later every night, repeat forever. Some weeks up during day, then nocturnal. Repeat.)

Meticulously placing each curve and bend, floating for hours through a forest of stems and petals to examine views known generally only to insects - getting fully lost in the process, days of peace and contemplation.

Favorite way to cope, it really is about the process and not the product

The Gaulstown Dolmen • Waterford

This Neolithic portal tomb known as the Gaulstown Dolmen likely dates to around 3800–3400 BC.

It is beautifully set in an atmospheric glade at the foot of a hill known as Cnoc na Cailligh (the Hill of the Witch).
