Maine has a Dem governor now (Mills) and is more likely than not to have a Dem governor after next November should an appointment be needed. I admit there is some risk (my personal preference had been Fecteau), but she also has the experience winning elections and we know she's actually a Dem.

Mills is older, but what evidence is there that's she's feeble. And her parents lived to their 90s!

She's also the only Dem to win statewide in ME for ~two decades and stood up to Trump in a moment when many (looking at you, Gretchen Whitmer) were cowering.

I will die on the hill that I think the odds that Platner ends up being another Fetterman or Sinema are way too high for my comfort. I get the concerns with Mills’ age but the most important thing (IMHO) is she’s shown she’d be a reliable, predictable vote.
