Boring on about my cats and junior parkrun. On the longest career break. Have I mentioned my cat went missing for 10 years and then came back?
This is performance art, right?
29.11.2025 17:47 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0"They are present while I buy all the stuff".
29.11.2025 17:07 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0"mutually expensive" would suggest the child was paying for any of it. I think it's singularly expensive my love.
29.11.2025 17:06 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I've got the celebrities recording their "it's 10pm, do you know where your children are?" public service announcements going around my head. Except it's Grace Jones saying "it's November 29th, do you know where your advent calendars are?" No Grace, no I do not. Sorry.
29.11.2025 17:02 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I'm pretty sure this year I put the refillable advent calendars in this cupboard. Or maybe this cupboard. Oh, right, has to be this cupboard then.
Oh fuck, they're in the loft aren't they?
Yeah this is not a pudding. This is on your plate with your turkey, your gravy, and your green bean casserole. Unlike green bean casserole it is actually edible.
27.11.2025 19:34 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0They've included the chilling time in that. It's not quite the right recipe I've had, as they'd do real cranberries and I'm not sure there's cream cheese in it. It's clearly a bit classy because there's whipped cream and not Cool Whip.
27.11.2025 19:11 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Thankfully my mid-western family don't seem to do the mayo with sweet things. I think Wisconsin is a bit more sensible than some others.
27.11.2025 19:08 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Jello salad is a whole different dish.
27.11.2025 19:06 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Gnnnnh. He's getting my heritage wrong. It's not in jello. It's a fluff salad. In whipped cream. Yes you eat it with your turkey. www.thepioneerwoman.com/food-cooking...
27.11.2025 19:05 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0It really didn't work for me and the kids were pretty unimpressed. They did keep watching and the youngest found the fight scenes hilarious. But the eldest's verdict at the end was "well that was a film that existed".
16.11.2025 11:47 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I am watching Scott Pilgrim Vs The World with my offspring and I have no idea what is going on and everyone is so very irritating. I don't even have snacks.
15.11.2025 21:19 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Rewatching Buffy with the teenager and I forgot that Tara & Willow announce their gayness by getting a kitten. Rather than actually, y'know, snogging or using the word girlfriends or something.
11.11.2025 15:31 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0My mum grew up in the US and had massive culture shock when she went to my dad's family in Inverness in the early 70s. She's from a blue collar, small Mid West town family but had no idea that it was possible to not have central heating.
10.11.2025 20:11 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I love a missing cat story but our Millie beats this with her 10 year absence.
16.10.2025 16:31 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Probably wants to teach you to hunt.
04.10.2025 20:02 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0My cat appears to catch mice outside and then release them, alive, in my house. I've tried to explain the error of this to him but he's 4 so I guess he's got 6 years to learn.
04.10.2025 18:09 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0It was taken off the list for Year 10, which is 14-15 year olds, not 10 year olds.
01.10.2025 20:05 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0You definitely need the right buy in to make it worthwhile so being cynical is understandable. But I think done properly there's a value to it that just having books around school doesn't have.
29.09.2025 14:48 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I would also accept a named member of staff with actual time and passion to run it who was not a librarian. But someone. I'm not sure the "librarian" at my kids' primary school was an actual librarian, they did a lot of emotional literacy stuff too. But you have to have someone in charge.
29.09.2025 14:41 β π 12 π 2 π¬ 4 π 0The library at my kids' primary school was very needed. They used it for literacy lessons, it gave kids to a wider range of books than the classroom corner could. Y6 kids got to help run it, giving a real boost to confidence. And it was a quiet place to spend lunchtimes for those who needed it.
29.09.2025 14:39 β π 8 π 1 π¬ 2 π 1We are old.
29.09.2025 09:35 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0More people on this train need to be using headphones.
27.09.2025 17:28 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Taking the teenager to their first gig. The Beths. Thankfully I also like their music.
26.09.2025 18:32 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Leaning in is fun! Are you even a parent if you don't horrifically embarrass your child?
25.09.2025 10:59 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I really hope my kids and their friends find me a bit cringe. It's the appropriate reaction to parents. Although I will protest if I get called a Millennial, because I'm just Gen X.
25.09.2025 10:57 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Did you have a paper round? Did you? Really? Or did you spend your mornings in bed watching the Big Breakfast?
25.09.2025 10:54 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Driving through Bromley and I thought someone had died because all the lamp posts had a flag half way up. If you must fly a flag, hoist it all the way up people.
