The republican party is essentially Trump's party. The proposed NIH cut will be davastating for many red states including Alabama and Georgia, where Universities are the largest employers. They will lose billions. But no, they will not join to protect their people. That never was their agenda.

Oh, so now they want us to organize, to be politicized, raise voice together, write/call congress. When children were murdered, healthcare institutes were bombed, killing of doctors, caregivers were happening on your money, no NIH grant receiving institute felt the need to say anything.

NIH In Your State - United For Medical Research
Select a state on the map to see the impact of NIH funding across America.
But again, none of this is surprising. It is directly from the pages of Project 2025. Trump is doing exactly what he promised.
This link will show state by state how much funding is brought by individual states vs. jobs supported. www.unitedformedicalresearch.org/nih-in-your-...

The attack on the scientific ecosystem, on education, on healthcare among other things, is palpabale and suicidal in the long run. It means the end of many academic research institutes. USA's loss in terms of its stronghold on scientific research is already showing to be a gain for China.

In effect, it will cut $4 billion in overhead expenses. This is devastating for research and healthcare. Even in simple business terms, for every dollar invested in NIH, it gives back $2.5. It generates hundreds of thousands of jobs.

When I bring a federal grant to my institute worth $100, my institute gets an ADDITIONAL $65 to support the research. Yesterday, the NIH director announced (without congressional approval) this indirect cost to an universal $15. It will cut $4 billion in overhead expenses.

By now, we know about Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion being scrapped. Did you know about Sexual and Gender Minority Mental Health Research being wiped out too?
