If we had a real Labour government they would simply nationalise TLS since this British institution is clearly not being maintained properly.

74. Historians should share sources more. Like, actually give colleagues sources that you found so they can use them.

There’s convergence: when Kevin Vallier’s integralism book was going round, integralists occasionally said similar things about liberalism and for the same reasons: they didn’t intend to concede civic equality, even in principle, for out-groups (Jews in their case; Muslims in the Hindutvadi).

It takes some active work to be a traitor to and fired by _both_ the United States and Confederacy, and not even in a "I changed my mind about the first treason" kinda way.

So it seems! Have to admit my ignorance here. I didn’t know anything at all about it; still stunned to learn that it has an inscription maybe half a millennium older than the Meroitic ones. Thank you very much for this.

We must now speak about the Ethiopian writing which is called hieroglyphic among the Egyptians, in order that we may omit nothing in our discussion of their antiquities. Now it is found that the forms of their letters take the shape of animals of every kind, and of the members of the human body, and of implements and especially carpenters' tools; for their writing does not express the intended concept by means of syllables joined one to another, but by means of the significance of the objects which have been copied and by its figurative meaning which has been impressed upon the memory by practice. 2 For instance, they draw the picture of a hawk, a crocodile, a snake, and of the members of the human body β€” an eye, a hand, a face, and the like. Now the hawk signifies to them everything which happens swiftly, since this animal is practically the swiftest of winged creatures. And the concept portrayed is then transferred, by the appropriate metaphorical transfer, to all swift things and to everything to which swiftness is appropriate, very much as if they had been named. 3 And the crocodile is a symbol of all that is evil, and the eye is the warder of justice and the guardian of the entire body. And as for the members of the body, the right hand with fingers extended signifies a procuring of livelihood, and the left with the fingers closed, a keeping and guarding of property. 4 The same way of reasoning applies also to the remaining characters, which represent parts of the body and implements and all other things; for by paying close attention to the significance which is inherent in each object and by training their minds through drill and exercise of the memory over a long period, they read from habit everything which has been written.

genocide had occurred in the last year. That’s a very strong claim, but it seems implied by the claim that findings of genocide are motivated by Holocaust trivialisation. I can’t see how that’s compatible with the evidence from Gaza.

I don’t think that’s in doubt (prior anti-Semitism and its present exploitation). The problem is the claim that those who think it’s genocide are motivated by anti-Semitism (of the Holocaust trivialisation kind). To get there, you’d have to deny that non-prejudiced people could reasonably think a

I’m holding a ball in my hand. The light is good, and I’m awake and alert. I know there’s a ball in my hand. Later, I reason that I must have known that there was a ball in my hand, because I can remember holding it in my hand and it felt spherical.

Those deaths matter. So does the unashamed public malice shown by those who killed them. Something has gone very badly wrong in those who can look at that evidence and think that anyone persuaded that it shows genocide is simply motivated by a desire to trivialise the Holocaust.

I don’t doubt it. But it’s another thing entirely to exclude the possibility that the evidence of intent to do genocidal harm and the actual harm we’ve seen for quite a long while now could not convince anyone who wasn’t already anti-Semitic that a genocide was in progress.

politicians as well as the subsequent acts of the IDF. You don’t even have to think that the evidence has been well handled; that it isn’t misleading; or that it’s presents the full picture of events. But setting aside the possibility that it has the persuasive power to justify the claim of genocide
