I need to bring this tweet over here because i STILL think about it every couple months

16.11.2025 16:55 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0In all srsness, I think our campaign has a lot of character complexity (13 with Ancestry Paragon, Pirate Training, and tons of items), but just too few encounters for you to actually get a rhythm and learn everything lol
I mean it's what, an avg of probably 3-4 rounds of combat per week
(who did also forget he took Quickened Casting and get Warp Step wrong twice in the same fight)
16.11.2025 16:52 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0no i was specifically calling out PHAZIUS, NAAMS, and LUCY, you're a little golden angel who can do no wrong ๐๐

humans have a 3min CD "Heart of the Lion" rhat gives 15% crit, for example
mainline WoW spent almost 20 years trying to solve this problem (i.e. ignoring it until Alliance raiding almost withered and died)
baguette for like $0.25 is insane. I've never seen sales like that of any kind
i wonder if there's more laws over there against throwing food out or something
scaling by 1d12+1d4 is 9 damage per rank, which is way better than most spells Heighten (usually like 1d10 or 2d6)
So Thunderstrike quite literally holds its own against things like Execute and Disintegrate (!), has a solid range that's good at all levels, and even extra upsides vs metal armor ๐ค๐ค๐ค
>build a really cool 7th-rank spell for the Gozreh cleric in my campaign
>check the damage: it's barely more than a 7th-rank Thunderstrike. I must have undertuned it
>check the damage against other 7th-ranks: nope it's pretty much on par with them
is Thunderstrike actually sleeper OP??? ๐ค
Oh!!! I should probably learn how to read. I'll remove it from our Barbarian lol
16.11.2025 06:52 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0and your first strike next turn (or even your Reactive Strike) gets off-guard automatically!!
Invis runes are like Active Camo, they should be being spammed constantly in tough combats
a really coordinated party could even ALL go invisible at once, then spend several turns healing and buffing
the classic suggestion for a melee martial is "Strike - Strike - move away to waste the enemy's action"
but hey what if instead of moving away you functionally DISAPPEARED from the battlefield, requiring a Seek + DC11 Flat check to hit you with anything. for one action! with no manipulate or move!
my players (but also the whole pf2e community at large) are sleeping on how broken the pf2e Invisibility rune is I think ๐คซ
this isn't just good, it should imo be mandatory once you have a property rune slot on armor and 500g to spend
politics is about exponents. it's about integrals. it's about 2nd-order nonlinear differential equations
16.11.2025 03:39 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0true, and that's a good one for tech issues. though sometimes I need an even dumber one for roommates and coworkers. like "you did something I've done neatly 500 times, and you immediately fucked it up and spilled something and made a mess. incredible."
16.11.2025 01:27 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I firmly believe that not every encounter should be a fair "beat up the bad guys (who are present in numbers just slightly smaller than you, to be moderately challenging)" and I think I really succeeded at that today ๐
16.11.2025 01:05 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0In the end, the Cleric, though frustrated by failing 3 checks to cast spells, succeeded 5 (!) consecutive Escapes to break his own wrist and activate the Token of Recall ๐
A badass moment for the PC even if he didn't get to cast anything or "win" the encounter
and others would escape, maybe they would even lose items and have to go on a rampage of revenge to get them back. It was the ending of a chapter and I was ok with the consequences.
16.11.2025 01:03 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0So the cleric was handcuffed in the surprise round (basically couldn't cast spells), and immediately had his super-magical sacred trident disarmed by the cops too
I was willing to let this be a big inflection point in the campaign. Maybe the PCs would win the fight, maybe some would be arrested
but two hard encounters later, barely at half HP and almost out of spell slots, they just walked out of the hideout and started discussing their plans ๐
when the Inquisitor and Major revealed that the PCs would be getting arrested and framed for the very conspiracy they'd just uncovered
There was obvious story foreshadowing to the ambush (PCs all agreed that it's not a question of *if* they got betrayed, but *when*)
and some Perception checks or spells could have totally picked up the Inquisitor, invisibly hiding outside as they entered the cultists' hideout
Step 1: give your PCs the Final Fantasy Endwalker macguffin to teleport (once) out of any situation
Step 2: Design a completely unfair ambush which they are mathematically disadvantaged against, and see if they fall for it ๐คทโโ๏ธ
