I think their name was supposed to be understood as "Saints of the Five Powers", the five powers being Power, Speed, Magic, Weapon, and Omni.
Not sure if that helps though, cause the name is really unwieldy, which is probably why they are going with Wusheng now.

It's a weird thing to say about a novel for sure. I thought it must be a science textbook review or some such. In science, technical terms can change their meaning pretty quickly over time, so the same word in a 20 year old book might mean something else that it does today.

I'm not a native speaker, but I believe that this sentence isn't even grammatically correct in several place, so I sincerely doubt that reviewer's competence in assessing the quality of language use. (The sentence the way it is written suggests that "I" was published in 2002. Also missing a comma)
