It is (admittedly clever) maths putting words together that look about right to a human. It doesn't understand what words are or what they mean.

If your initial reaction to seeing these boats is anything other than “those poor bastards, I hope they make it across” then you have failed as a human being.

It's good for him that they all wear masks while they are doing their patriotic duty.

One of the depressing facts of life is that it's very easy to convince ordinary people to do awful things.
