09.02.2026 01:46 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0So was the ad made with genAi, for an AI company, or both?
And if a AI company doesn't make their ad with AI, are they damn cowards?
Did someone put GenAI ads in the Owl game?

08.02.2026 17:46 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0So, yes, things are subjective, but have never heard anyone happy with how pass interference is handled, and you are the first I have ever heard stand up for false starts!
But I do agree these these cannot be fixed, only patched harder
I don't watch a lot of basketball but gleaned enough chatter about it to understand Curry fundamentally changed the game - has it led to patchy rule changes?
Basketball feels like a game without a lot of rules glue. Traveling is a joke, but that's more institutional problem than rules based
Part of my rant is broken designer/ feedback brain I'm sure, and another part halo effect of other problematic aspects of the NFL.
Genuinely appreciate the push back though!
Like I wrapped up the mini thread with, it is a shame the NFL didn't consult with me before making billions a year :)
I do think games and products can be badly flawed and wildly successful and enjoyable.
And happy to if not die, be blocked in the back on this little hill.
It's specifically the dead time on false start/ illegal motion style penalties that I'm referring to as terrible viewing. The NFL is clearly a highly successful product!
08.02.2026 15:44 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Web search result listing 21.25 False start penalties per team
False start, 5 yard penalty, still 2nd down.
I get what you are saying, but you will not convince me that this is a feature. The idea of the tense variable start sounds potentially cool but the amount of rules trappings and interruptions that go with it is just bad
The correct way to respond to crocodile tears
08.02.2026 15:06 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Playing within the spirit of the game should be rewarded by the rules but punished, and offsides fails that metric too often
08.02.2026 14:41 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Offsides or something like it needs to be there - goal camping isn't fun to watch or play and it's too effective left untouched.
But it leads to many situations where an exciting, well played sequence is nullified because a player was too fast or a step off.
Contrast with non-American football. Core loop (you kick the ball) is clear, smooth, and mostly uninterrupted. There are safety rules on contact and tackling, and they aren't perfect, but critically they don't change quickly in context. But there is one standout inelegant rules patch, offsides
08.02.2026 14:37 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I have not, I only recently learned Kabbadi existed! Will check it out.
08.02.2026 13:36 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yeah there are so many sports that make so much more game design sense!
08.02.2026 13:28 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0And of course the smashing is insanely dangerous. So we need 55 pages of smashing rules that change radically as the game context changes. Players can easily parse this in fractions of a second
It is a shame football did not consult with game designers before making billions each year...
What's pass interference and what isn't? Let me refer you to rules addendum 23 version 17.5.7. Also, passing is now overpowered, so you can only pass to certain people. And if the smashing guy smashes well and goes forward, clearly that's a penalty now because he looks like he might catch a pass
08.02.2026 13:19 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Then to get to passing. It's the most exciting, dynamic aspect and absolutely has to be there. Except by the intuitive expectation of a game where highly armored people smash into each other, it's trivially easy to stop, just smash the guy before he catches it. Pass interference to the rescue!
08.02.2026 13:15 β π 5 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0So you get elaborate snap counts, false start penalties, offsides baiting bandaged on- which are terrible viewing and antithetical to the premise of the game.
Also, people standing still is boring, so let's add rules that certain people can move, but only a few and under strict restrictions
As a game designer, I've come to recognize that football is a fundamentally flawed game held up by an ever increasing number of rules patches.
Let's start with the snap. 22 very large people need to see/ hear a small ball move in a deafening stadium before they go 0 to 100%. Insane core loop.
