Tonight I watched Prime Minister Mark Carney take the actual Heated Rivalry Canada fleece from Hudson Williams, slip it on and say: “This is true soft power.”

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

This is what I keep saying: Stephen Miller is the biggest threat, the one that helps create and ideate all of these evil machinations. Focusing solely on Trump, or on ICE is not it. Focus on the evil (+bald) head of the whole thing.
