If you look at someone like Mamdani, his election campaign has been very strong because he is very clear on what he stands for and how he’s not willing to compromise on that. At the same time, his sales pitch is targeted at everyone even though he knows there are people who will never vote for him.

Saying I will create a better life for everyone in the state isn’t really coddling anyone. Coddling would be giving up on your principles and leaning into Republican policies which is not at all what I’m suggesting.

I absolutely agree. That said, Dem policies are better for an average American and I would advertise that. If MAGA insists on being racists propping up an authoritarian regime it’s their problem but I wouldn’t say that part out loud.

I agree that they need to stop with the compromise and moving over to the right trying to court people who will never vote for them. That said, if it was me in that chair, I would emphasize how Trump’s policies hurt people who voted for him and explain how I’ll create more jobs and a better life.

I mean there’s a lot of misogyny in the US so it will be always be harder for a woman but I think she could have won with a different campaign strategy.

Not a real temper tantrum, no. But she was rude and arrogant. This is how I would expect Trump to act and I think Trump is unfit for politics.

Actually in a very similar situation Trump was more cool and collected than Porter was. And that’s a man with zero composure, decorum or self control.

It would absolutely be an issue if a man did this but I’ve never seen Newsom or Schiff do anything of the sort (though I have other issues with them). There are absolutely ways to end the interview in a cool and collected and polite way. Instead she was acting the exact same way Trump would.

I expect more of politicians than three year olds. And Trump has temper tantrums daily. It’s one of countless reasons he has no business being in politics.

There’s nothing hostile about asking how she plans to appeal to 40% of voters that voted for Trump. Any politician would say their policies would help everyone in the state and give a couple examples on how they’ll strengthen economy and middle class. Absolutely nothing to lose your shit over.

She was judged by Biden’s actions because she said she wouldn’t do anything differently. She could have easily outlined where she disagrees with him and what she will do differently but she chose to run on more of Biden’s policies instead.

Issue here isn’t that she expressed an opinion or suggested the wrong policy. If a politician needs advisors to tell them not to have a temper tantrum on camera over a basic interview question, they’re in the wrong line of work.

In this case Katie Porter is doing the GOP’s job for them. They don’t even need to make stuff up to smear her now - they can just air this video. This is also not a little snippy with a coworker- it’s a meltdown on camera in a press interview in response to a pretty basic question.

Republican base seems to like having the worst possible people in charge. I wouldn’t vote for someone like Trump in a million years and I don’t think anything he does is acceptable.

On a softball question too. It was a prime opportunity to talk her policies and how they would help Californians.

This isn’t causing good trouble and this isn’t fighting against the enemy. This is just having a temper tantrum on camera for no reason.

Private life and professional life are two very different things.

Public speaking and doing press interviews are a major part of the job.
