Now a “crisis of confidence” in the courts → defunding judges.

There is no evidence of these crises.

The UCP is trying to manufacture them.

You’re right about that. There have been a few concerts lately where I looked for tickets just to confirm the prices were as crazy as I expected.

They’ve made money like mad the last two seasons. I changed seats a couple years ago to avoid some of the price increase. The seats I had were $92 a game in 2023/24. Two seasons later they’re $114. And everything else in the building has gone up similarly.

It’s wild how expensive it’s gotten. Through the eternal rebuild, even though they were an awful team, I always felt like there was value. It was worth the cost. In the last decade they’ve made sure to take all that value and put it in their pockets, and that’s going to burn them eventually.

I say this as someone going to the game tonight and genuinely looking forward to it. I’ll probably buy just one beer though. Never any food. I don’t buy merchandise anymore. And the only reason I’m even considering renewing my tickets next year is Connor McDavid. I don’t think I’m alone in that.

That probably looks good on the bottom line in the short term, but it destroys the relationship with the fan base. When things change on the ice, and eventually things will change (McDavid won’t be here forever), I expect they’ll regret chasing those short-term gains.
