People always struggle with this concept. Star Trek isn’t a documentary, it never has been, this is why it’s okay to update things across the board.

It’s an artistic interpretation of a fictional universe, how we viewed the future in the ‘60s is going to be different to how we view it now.

Stop. It's not a documentary about the future. It's a sci-fi/fantasy show about the present. It always has been.
