the comment about AI being a much more sophisticated search engine makes me want to break a window. i swear these people didn't use search engines before 2016.

until the majority of people realize "safety doesnt come from some powerful entity putting bad people in cages, it comes from people helping each other" USA is fucked. seems simple until considering that most of what white people hold dear is constructed out of there being good ppl and bad ppl.

sadly it's a good wager on their part. people are taking to the streets, witnessing community solidarity...but we don't have anything close to a refutation of "americans want to order the world by policing those Others." even ppl putting their lives on the line doesn't mean theyve gotten the point:(

i think people romanticize games criticism like its webcomics or anime fansub sharing or underground poetry, but theres an economics to all of those things, and games crit is a particularly weird one i imagine. can't really DIY without creating culture. this is too big for bsky oops

any "cool nerd activities" that used to be better were probably such that doing it at all *required* community participation. there was a demand, and to get it met one had to find (and perhaps help) others. this dynamic is night and day compared to "intentionally create and maintain culture."

uhhhhhh short, ingenious indie game with max graves artwork feels like a recipe for $$$ to me, but maybe i'm very biased. i would buy such a thing in a heartbeat.

both films have clear points of view, both are very well drawn NYC slices of life, but one of them demands you to engage.

i don't think films need to be polemics or anything, but i think the failure of clarity in taxi driver is simply a flaw; one you could never accuse DTRT of.

i think Do the Right Thing is a perfect counterpoint to what i'm talking about re: social responsibility. whoever the audience, if they walk out of DTRT not getting its point, they're actively trying not to. (also better slice of life)

i like some scorsese films and like a lot of the films he brought attention to even more, but taking an issue so important and handling it so "meh, here it is!" is so gross.

also i just can't with this "western heritage" stuff, reading explicitly white supremacist "ideas" is like arguing w kids.

depends who "we" are, but i mostly agree. sadly, being tied into a larger ecosystem (of integrations and contracts and licensing and tech debt and migration costs) is the main reason i'd disagree. for an individual (non-enterprise) user or small developer, OS doesn't matter.
