Mom of Karoline Leavitt’s nephew rejects White House narrative of her ICE arrest In an interview, Bruna Ferreira, who chose the White House press secretary as her son’s godmother, contested the portrayal of her as a criminal, absentee mom.

At some point in the future, Karoline Leavitt is going to come to us real contrite and asking for forgiveness, insisting she didn't know what she was really doing. And when that happens we should absolutely remember this story.

a type of content that makes me want to launch myself into space and is huge part of why everything is so bad: TikToker goes down a β€œrabbit hole,” makes 9-minute video. The β€œrabbit hole” was she found an Eater article. The Eater journalist did all the work: www.tiktok.com/t/ZTruBS8cp/

FIFA peace prize

Person who actually deserves a trophy is the artist who made the FIFA peace prize trophy look like everyone in the entire world holding their head in their hands out of secondhand embarrassment

My broader point is not that there are never instances where you can just say "this is so" moreso that it's a judgement call each time about how to best present that to readers and I don't think it's always a dodge to let other players in the story make those points. Sometimes it certainly IS.

Yeah I think in that particular example, news orgs absolutely had a responsibility not to use the government's preferred euphemism, there were definitely experts and former US government officials and current international officials who were using the word torture and backing it up.

The blue checks thing is about consumer deception. X changed the rules in a way that allowed impersonation and scams to flourish.

Kind of like if Kellogg's said it was checking your cereal to remove any bugs or glass shards, and then stopped actually checking but kept that representation. 2/

There's also a flip side to this problem: lots of reporters embed assumptions or opinions about the specifics of the law, or a problem or dispute that, in fact, are not as straightforward or universally held as that reporter thought. Where I recognize this in my own writing I try to address it.

In other words, if what you're saying really is so obvious and factual and unimpeachable, than in many cases there will be no shortage of sourcing to cite along the way.

Yes...BUT! I think any responsible writer, and particularly journalists, also try make sure they can backstop most claims - even seemingly obvious ones - with evidence.

I am not shy about saying "this is what I think the situation is based on the facts" but ideally it shouldn't be just you.

"They never put the news in the news. Have you noticed that? I did. No it's, I'm fine. It's just allergies. Are you a cop? We are democratizing the panopticon. Is Bruno Mars just one guy? God, these are some good allergies."

The entire continent of Africa getting like 3 paragraphs in your national security strategy at the very end is extremely on brand for the admin.

I have long suspected this is the case and that this is a big reason why we're seeing newer commercial AI models released this year that don't seem to have even the same level of safety and security guardrails as prior models.

Oh yeah I'm just commenting on some of the breathless reaction to it online. Obviously needs to be conclusively determined etc, and Patel is a clown. I just thought there was zero percent chance this was anyone other than a true believer.

Yeah it's nice to get confirmation and everything, but even taking into account how violent people sometimes have incoherent ideologies, what exactly were people here expecting someone who planted bombs at the DNC and RNC headquarters the night before Jan. 6 to believe?

Does anyone know of any other examples of where a video synchs perfectly to other audio, like the This Is America video clip set to Call Me Maybe?

Just an incredible passage here about the administration's stated preference for non-intervention, coming at the same time the US is blowing boats out of the water in the Caribbean to provoke Venezuela into a war.

Joe Rogan: That's crazy man you're saying that Amon, the fallen Xel'Naga whom destroyed the others with the Swarm is returning and now Kerrigan, the Queen of Blades, is our best tool to defeat his coming?

Zeratul: That is indeed correct, Joe Rogan

Joe Rogan: That's fucked up man, that's crazy

Sen. Mark Kelly:Β Investing in safe, secure AI is key to U.S. dominance The Democratic senator from Arizona believes that global AI standards must include American values around civil rights, privacy and safety.

My story (which is mostly focused on other comments Kelly made around AI safety) also discusses these quotes, which I think are actually rare and welcome in a Congress that has otherwise been all in on the idea that AI is inevitable.

FWIW, I do think some folks are only reading the first part of Kelly's quote. He does acknowledge at least the potential for ruinous economic consequences if the bet doesn't pay off and that actually puts him ahead og quite a few policymakers in DC, imo.
