Quick question - How long does the publisher give you to complete a novel, in general? Thanks.
01.10.2025 14:59 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0How well does your humor translate? Do the translators need to run things by you when there is no clear translation?
18.09.2025 22:16 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Of course, this would be more significant if there were ever going to be more postings. It's been dry for quite a while.
15.08.2025 14:06 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0NIH will no longer list NIH grant opportunities through the NIH Guide.
Sure, grants.gov was duplicative. But grants.gov is shitty. And NIH's Guide was less shitty.
Not a huge deal. But just one more example of exec branch consolidation and NIH enshittification

Good news from the NIH. Recipients may resume initiating first no-cost extensions in eRA Commons.

I have to say, their TSA equivalent is so much more pleasant. Just don't say "Melbourne." I was corrected many times to say "Melbun". They are serious about that.
06.08.2025 15:31 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0π§ͺ Senate appropriators say: NIH's budget gets a... boost!
Rather than 40% cut, NIH gets a $400M *increase* in the Senate committee bill for FY26 (about +1%).
"Congress has your back," said @murray.senate.gov.
ADVOCACY MATTERS! There's still a long road (esp in the House), so keep up pressure.

Ignorance is not bad faith. But persistence in ignorance is.

Hell yeah, keep the pressure on.
If you live in one of these states, call your Senators, thank them, and remind them that there are related issues where their states and the nation needs their support and willingness to stand up.
There are a lot more proposals, so it makes sense the success rate is lower. But reviewers have become a lot more conservative IMO as more guidance is provided for scoring. I donβt feel the best ideas are getting funded, just the best proposals that check the boxes.
27.07.2025 14:10 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Recommendations all pertain to better data reporting.
25.07.2025 18:48 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Finding 5: Higher levels of funding at the IC level would result in higher levels of publications, patents, clinical trials, and drug approvals.
25.07.2025 18:47 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Finding 4: NIH SBIR/STTR-funded firms do better than unfunded applicants on various commercialization metrics and outcomes. However, these firms were already doing well on these measures before receiving SBIR/STTR funding.
25.07.2025 18:47 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Finding 3: The NIH SBIR/STTR programs are attracting applicants that are more likely to be high-growth companies relative to the general biotech startup population, and the quality of awardees has been
increasing over time.
Finding 2: NIH SBIR/STTR-funded firms have introduced many clinically important drugs; devices; and products. About one-third of SBIR/STTR awardees have received a trademark and/or FDA clearance to market a drug or device (PMA or 510[k]) after receiving their award.
25.07.2025 18:47 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Finding 1: NIH SBIR/STTR awards result in numbers of patents and clinical studies per award and per dollar similar to those resulting from NIHβs Research Project Grant (R01) program. The actual number of patents is likely much larger for NIH SBIR/STTR awards because of underreporting.

21.07.2025 20:26 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0This also means it will be a major risk to trust MPIs and their reporting. Donβt they know that the FT effort is capped? They are simply trying to reduce the number of applications.
