It's my nephew's birthday close to Christmas, and every year I buy him whatever I think has been the best comics TPB of the year.

This year I couldn't choose between these two so got him both.

APWOT #4

Delighted to receive @apwot.bsky.social's APWOT #4 in the post this morning! A new issue of this great gaming magazine is always cause for celebration, and the fact that it has a Portal cover feature is the icing on the cake! Have already backed the Kickstarter for #5, so looking forward to more.

This was as excellent as I've come to expect from @ryannorth.ca's FF. More than 20 issues in, and he's still finding new and creative ways to tell stories about these characters with the usual easy charm - and even manages to make a couple of Blood Hunt tie-in issues work for the book! Great stuff.

The art is as solid and detailed as you'd expect throughout, and it's also a dense read that makes use of the higher pagecount and larger pages of the DSTLRY format to pack in a lot of story, rather than wasting too much space on 'big' moments or indulgent splashpages. I can't wait for more of this.

One For Sorrow #1

This was excellent. @mckelvie.bsky.social spins a great yarn here, telling an atmospheric Victorian crime story with lots of different plot threads that are already weaving together nicely by the end of the issue, and a couple of clever reveals towards the end that elevated the entire issue for me.
