As long as those things already have HA integrations you don’t need esp32 for them. You can potentially make “dumb” devices smart and available to HA by using esp32s to control relays to switch them on etc. But I’d always go down smart plugs/IR blasters before messing with the internals of things.

We also have small esp32 minis that have cheap temp sensors on them that measure stuff like the fish tanks water temperature, greenhouse temp/humidity and feed that data back to HA. I can then use that data to turn on fans/alerts etc. Fun to do some microelectronic stuff after years of coding 3/3
