Yeah, I’m doing active learning (POGIL) - a persistent feedback is how some students prefer passivity (I didn’t say *passive learning* as I’m suspect about the learning part).

A kind paternalism for better learning seems better than the smug paternalism of ‘we’ve always done it that way’.

Well, it’s a good fucking thing that we’re adding more irrigation out of Lake Diefenbaker - and silting up the downstream in the process - and expanding coal mining in the rockies. Such good things to do when the amount of water flow declines.

I have a kinder interpretation - I've met of lot of dedicated professionals in that field, that do the best they can under bewildering direction and competing pressures.

But I've also seen enough 'bad' examples that would cause me to pull my hair out.

I am proud of my work to teach students how to write with proportion and accuracy.

Given the frequency of neurodivergence in the faculty ranks (much higher than the population) and the fact that floating / open offices are TERRIBLE for neurotypical people, let alone for neurodivergent people, this 'notion' will either die quickly - or die slowly, and alienate everyone further.
