Malignant narcissists often destroy what other people love. When they do, they’re acting out of pathological envy. They have a need for absolute control and a desire for sadistic pleasure. They intentionally engage in destruction to cause suffering in order to reinforce their sense of superiority.

CHAPTER EIGHTEEN: Of Tyranny

199. As usurpation is the exercise of power which another hath a right to, so tyranny is the exercise of power beyond right, which nobody can have a right to. And this is making use of the power anyone has in his hands, not for the good of those who are under it, but for his own private, separate advantage. When the governor, however entitled, makes not the law but his will the rule, and his commands and actions are not directed to the preservation of the properties of his people, but the satisfaction of his own ambition, revenge, covetousness, or any other irregular passion

ICE is stockpiling arms, including chemical weapons, guided missile warheads and explosive components. The spending dwarfs anything we've ever seen in the agency - a 700% increase.

The President is building an army to attack his own country.

WOW: The White House says the president's MAIN PRIORITY is his BALLROOM. SNAP is ending. Subsidies for health care are gong to double and in some instances quadruple plan premiums. The government is shut down. The cost of living is through the roof. And his priority is his ballroom.

The United States also already has a major physician shortage, which is bad now and projected to worsen to pretty extreme levels as Boomers continue to age. Making H1-B visas dependent on a $100K bribe is going to cause thousands of medical students & residents to stop coming here every single year.

As a survivor, I can't think of a more fitting metaphor than a rapist creating loud noises with planes as a survivor tries to tell her story. I mean... just wow. Nevertheless, she persisted.

COMMENTARY: If this was happening in another nation, we'd call it by name. It's authoritarianism.

you'd think the governor of illinois basically going "we're being invaded by an authoritarian" would be something you'd see real easy on the front page of most everything an hour later

Why should I write better when a machine can do it for me?
Because actually no one can do it for you, because your voice is unique among all the people on earth. Siri never petted a horse's neck. Alexa has never been ghosted by the captain of the football team. But you have lived, your heart is beating, you have suffered, and you have something important to say. It's a human's job, to use words, and whatever job you give to a machine, that part of your brain goes dark. Maybe it's worth it when it comes to remembering phone numbers and directions, but when that part of your brain that uses words goes dark, that's a vast area that's very close to your soul. Don't let some internet platform convince you that what you have to say and create isn't worthwhile. Words are the echo of your soul. Honing that echo matters.

Ohio State University registered a trademark allowing the university to use "THE" on casual and athletic clothing. The university, often referred to as "The Ohio State University", had used "THE" on clothing since 2005, but took steps to register the trademark in August 2019 after the Marc Jacobs company attempted to do the same. In August 2021 Ohio State and Marc Jacobs agreed the high-end fashion retailer could use "THE" on its merchandise, which was different from what the university would sell. Still, the university took almost an additional year to convince the United States Patent and Trademark Office that the use of "the" was "more than ... ornamental".[20]

you might not expect the "The" page to be very exciting but then you get to truly bizarre section of legal feuds between delusional institutions trying to trademark "THE"

People living under fascism didn’t survive by giving up joyβ€”they protected it.

They held onto the things fascism tried to erase: art, friendship, jokes, rituals, language, memory.

Not as escapism but as resistance. As proof they were still human.

Joy isn’t frivolous under fascism. It’s strategic.

The media made a HUGE deal out of "basket of deplorables" and "cling to their guns or religion."

But, of course, it will totally ignore Trump saying he hates Democrats: "I hate them. I believe they hate their country."
