Garmin, Strava and Runna better get their shit together

Any engineer could build this, a highly competent Agentic Ai Coach

Its only just off the ground and it is able to take running plan context, deeply precise analysis and generate actionable advice, not just Strava AI fluff

Focusing on getting the fundamental machine learning done to the highest standard

All the AI analysis stuff is built on these foundations.

Its about providing real actionable advice

My latest run and the advice: "start slower, less surging"

Then back it with evidence to build trust

Great article and 100% on the mark. I got sick of Runna last week and have written my own agentic process and app that allows creation on plans and auto update into garmin as well as detailed analytics and dynamic plan adjustments. These will be a dime a dozen in 6 months

Yea this is a digital coach - it would be very easy to change the structure to act as analytics for your coach to use.

Trends over time coming next - these specific metrics allow you to see if those extra leg strength exercises your coach swears by actually do anything for example

AI assisted plan creation and can also take existing plan spread sheets and convert to Garmin ready uploads so you can have in your watch and account and track

Been a busy bee.

Sick of useless eye candy of strava and garmin

Runna has lost me as well

None of the above have any fucking clue how to really use AI

So i built my own

Its not sell able - but I would open source it

Anyone interested in this level of analysis?

See 🧡

You know you are a runner when almost half your bag for a week long business trip is all running gear

Bad planning a work travel caused me to miss a big long run

Irritated with myself for that

Will get to make it up in the hills south of Barcelona in the evenings after work

Steve Magness (@stevemagness) I nerded out on designing and creating workouts. Too often, we think that if we just find the β€œmagic” workout, it’ll all workout. But the truth is much of the art of coaching is understanding how to...

Steve Magness really is the coaching GOAT.

This is such an informative video on how to understand and manipulate that variables in a workout to maximise stimulus and adaptation

I ran 1,400 miles around Ireland On a running pilgrimage in the land of my forebears I was blown away by the scenery – and even more so by the warmth of the people

A brilliant runners perspective of Ireland. I am so lucky to be able to live and run here

When you combine militarized masked men, zero accountability and β€œothering” rhetoric - why is anyone surprised by what just happened

This murder by the government may be the tipping point

Another tragedy in my homeland

If you and your physio can identify the mechanic that needs to be sorted - you would be surprised how fast you can remap your motion if you want it had enough.

That and a lot of low impact treadmill and swimming will keep you fit

Stay away from downhills and stairs

Wow that is a crazy amount of miles! Amazing

If it makes you feel any better - it was about 5 weeks to break free of the injury/recovery cycle for my IT band and was back upto 60+ mile weeks 3 months after starting PT

07.01.2026 20:33 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

Make sure to keep running. IT bands won’t heal if not used. Tendons and ligaments need activity to heal - just below the threshold of injury.

When I was in a injury/recovery cycle one of the things the PT helped me to do was find that threshold and stay below it while fixing my mechanics

Ooof glutes sore today from speed work yesterday

Did an easy z2 run - there was a fair bit of z1 in there too, legs were pretty tired

Ran the numbers and feeling stoked - z2 pace down almost 30sec/mi from last year this time

Keeping focused on speed and durability this preseason

Yep pretty much.

It’s a good workout to start building comfort at higher paces since it’s longer at speed with the 1/2 mi

You know your workout is going to be difficult when you start bargaining with yourself after only the 1st of 6 intervals

β€œJust get halfway”

β€œjust 1 more”

β€œSure only 2 more you can do another”

β€œLast one cant quit now”

Workout
6x
1/2mi @ 6:35 - 60s rest - 1/4mi @ 6:15

Look what Santy brought πŸŽ…

I have drunk the SWAP podcast koolaid

adding vert dreadmill workouts to hard days

It has a range of -8 to +40 degree inclines. The -8 will be key as well to build quad strength for long downhills - one of my big weaknesses
