The wounds inflicted by the enemy in futile wars
Are flaunted by the soldier as a prize.
So in the high endeavour, for so great a thing,
Why should I be dismayed by hurt or injury?

Wittgenstein would say we are playing two different language games with the "british isles". I'm merely applying a label to an archipelago but Foucault would say you are using the internalised power structures of colonisation to colonise yourself . . .

I'd of thought it's just the product of high population density and a lot of city living in japan . . .
Interesting to note also is the way the article casts humans and the environments they create as separate from nature. Beaver dams = natural / cities = unnatural.

What your saying is there is no geography separate from the political power structures through which it is viewed.
However i think for a lot of people on the big island those political power structures are very different from your own so they don't overlay the same politics on the geography.
