just read a story about a little boy in SC who just learned to ride a bike but he was unvaxxed and got measles and got really sick and got a spinal tap and then pumped with medicines and then his brain swelled anyway and now he won't ever walk or eat on his own and he definitely won't ride a bike

1. DHS surges 3,000 officers to Minneapolis without doing anywhere near enough prep first.
2. Hundreds of habeas cases overwhelm local courts.
3. Dozens of DOJ lawyers quit in disgust/anger.
4. The DOJ brings in JAGs to cover.
5. A JAG was just held in contempt and fined $500/day for ICE's failures.

I spent my childhood inside of American concentration camps. I know one when I see one. And that is what ICE is building.

Libertarians warned about executive power generally, yes.

Then when Trump came along vowing to grab more executive power and abuse it more, most libertarians became supporters, apologists, or anti-anti defenders, cancelling the few objectors.

Important distinction from @anthonylfisher.bsky.social.

This is your regular reminder that the idea that Christianity is a thing uniform beliefs that everyone within β€œWestern Civilization” believed and agreed on is a fiction that just ignores centuries of Christians killing each other and fighting literal wars over their different beliefs.

CCTV footage appears to show DHS agents posing as people having car trouble in order to lure a target out of his house before arresting them. The target comes out and starts helping them before 3 vehicles surround the scene. The car "experiencing" trouble then drives off with them.

Trump justifies his brutal immigration tactics by painting illegal immigrants as criminals. But in reality, they commit fewer crimes than native-born Americans.

In the blanket incident, Noem had to switch planes after a maintenance issue was discovered, but her blanket wasn't moved to the second plane, according to the people familiar with the incident. The Coast Guard pilot was initially fired and told to take a commercial flight home when they reached their destination. They eventually reinstated the pilot because no one else was available to fly them home.

RFK Jr. is a liar. He lied to me about his anti-vax Samoa trip. The CDC’s vaccine advisory panel is now stacked with conspiracists and the US is positioned to lose its measles elimination status. RFK Jr. must be removed now.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) β€” Alberto CastaΓ±eda MondragΓ³n says his memory was so jumbled after a beating by immigration officers that he initially could not remember he had a daughter and still struggles to recall treasured moments like the night he taught her to dance.

But the violence he endured last month in Minnesota while being detained is seared into his battered brain.

He remembers Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents pulling him from a friend’s car on Jan. 8 outside a St. Paul shopping center and throwing him to the ground, handcuffing him, then punching him and striking his head with a steel baton. He remembers being dragged into an SUV and taken to a detention facility, where he said he was beaten again.

He also remembers the emergency room and the intense pain from eight skull fractures and five life-threatening brain hemorrhages.

ICE told nurses this Minneapolis man β€œpurposefully ran headfirst into a brick wall.”

What actually happened is that they pulled him from a car, beat him so viciously with a steel baton that he had 8 skull fractures, 5 life-threatening brain hemorrhages, and couldn’t remember he had a daughter.

It's unsurprising that the Nazis waged a relentless war on creativity, especially the modern and the avant-garde, in everything from architecture and design to painting.
Hitler himself was a failed painter whose work was most notably deficient in his inability to realistically capture human subjects. As Charlie English writes in his account of the Nazi war on art,
In this sense, Hitler's painting supports Arendt's theory of National Socialism-that it was defined by its banality and lack of empathy. The Nazis relied on the ability of people not to imagine themselves in someone else's shoes.
The lack of a connection was very much the point.
There is a right-wing war on empathy that observers like Bradley_ Onishi have been cataloguing for months and that was most recently documented by Hillary_ Clinton for The Atlantic. But I don't believe you can decouple this from the war on art and artists.

I share the belief that the arts are central to the cause of human freedom. This isn't only because of the expansive potential of the imagination. It's also because of the well of universal feeling and experience from which art draws in order to evoke something in its audience. And this experience pulls usβ€”as listeners, viewers, observers, whether the mediumβ€”into a cycle of mutual edification. Art helps us to know one another better and to know ourselves more honestly. And it helps us to process our awe and terror at the world and our existence. It's why those with authoritarian impulses always want to control it, to limit what it shows us, and to silence its practitioners. What they fear most is the plain truth of being human.
