It's a chance to fundamentally change the approach to governance and elections: to be clear about what the govt is trying to achieve and how it will do so, to stop alienating supporters and appealing to opponents.

McSweeney going is excellent news. It doesn't fix any problems by itself, but it is the precondition for fixing those problems.

There is a good argument in here that the turning point for the Starmer premiership was when McSweeney immediately started briefing against Sue Gray and he choose McSweeney. The dull competent government we were promised went with her and we got a one-trick punch-left operation with no support base.
