There is ‘no way’ for Carney ‘to not be in conflict,’ says lawyer Ian Stedman of the PM's ethics screen.

The path ahead is being transparent about how conflicts of interest will be mitigated, not trying to remove them altogether.

We NEED to figure out how to do the math to demonstrate that these expensive drugs can save us more than they cost us. That’s the only way to move past this narrative given how our politics, health and policy systems work.

A couple of Dr Trish Caetano’s slides from today’s presentation at the Garrod Symposium at UBC. Takeaway: drugs for rare diseases can be expensive and budgets are thin [we all know this narrative]. So what do we need to do?

Thank you, Elizabeth. More to come tomorrow - quite a few outlets reached out.

My humble suggestion is that if PP wants ethics laws to change he should put them in his platform. Force a discussion about who should disclose & when. I see no downside to having this dialogue.

CFRA Live - How a man’s rare disease was uncovered with a simple Google search - 580 CFRA Since the height of the Internet’s popularity, we have been warned to not use Google as a crutch to self-diagnose ailments. In the case of Ontario resident Ian Stedman, a simple Google search 10 years ago eventually led to a stunning discovery, not to mention game-changing answers to 32 years of questions. Stedman is now fighting a rare disease called Muckle-Wells Syndrome, a battle that his daughter is being sucked into after she was diagnosed with the exact same thing. He is now hoping that forms of Artificial Intelligence can provide clarity and a road to recovery to other patients who can’t fight their mysterious demons. He joins Andrew Pinsent on CFRA Live.

I had a chance to chat with 580 CFRA's Andrew Pinsent on Saturday about #RareDiseases and #ArtificialIntelligence - "How a man’s rare disease was uncovered with a simple Google search"
