Research on gene therapy for rare inherited disease reduces costly, regular treatment | CBC News
A researcher says the experimental use of gene therapy for a rare inherited disorder is saving almost as much money for treatment of five patients as the study itself costs.
An early-stage gene therapy study for Fabry disease has shown promising results.
Nova Scotia Health's Dr. Michael West, a Halifax-based kidney specialist and co-author of the study, emphasized the potential of gene therapy to reduce treatment burdens and long-term costs.
