The calculation in that URL is flawed. It forgets to add GST to the FET (actually National Land Transport Fund part of FET) but compares it to GST inclusive RUC. www.aa.co.nz/cars/owners/...

11.08.2025 10:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Not clever enough to add GST to the FET (actually National Land Transport Fund part of FET) but comparing it to GST inclusive RUC. www.aa.co.nz/cars/owners/...
11.08.2025 10:08 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0You do realise that GPS location will allow deduction of non-road mileage from your RUCs? Track days, going bush, beach driving. Alternative is to disconnect your odo for all of those pursuits I guess.
10.08.2025 04:44 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Beats paying to heat the whole house I guess π
10.08.2025 04:38 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Well summarised Emz. Essentially the government should stop regarding themselves as a business because there is far far more to governing than avoiding expenses, coz that will (and is) biting them on the arse ATM
09.08.2025 01:58 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0In its basic form this has everyone paying the same RUC but petrol gets cheaper. That is a windfall for high consumption vehicles so needs a carbon/ETS tax increase to correct the balance for emissions reasons.
06.08.2025 21:47 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Light (<3.5 T) pay $79/1,000km. Over 12T pays somewhere over $300/1,000km (axle & tyre configuration dependent) nzta.govt.nz/vehicles/roa...
06.08.2025 10:24 β π 4 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0But yes, a rollout of RUCs with deletion of FET will be a windfall for high consumption vehicles. An increase in carbon/ETS tax will be needed to correct this.
06.08.2025 10:20 β π 2 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0The chart's info is inaccurate. RUCs are 7.6c/km GST inclusive but it uses the GST exclusive 70c/L rather than 80.5 inclusive. Break over point is therefore 9.5L/100km.

06.08.2025 10:10 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0No brainer. Local, super reliable and great customer service. We use Skinny for mobile but use home wifi for reception as cell coverage is dire here, and 3G ending won't help.

We're right up there with AU's melanoma rates so solar is as viable here in NZ as there. Our government bleats about an energy crisis but failure to incentivise PV is on them!

05.08.2025 21:38 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0So, the Think Big projects of the 1980s were aimed at energy resilience for NZ and now they're part of the problem. How about we just find them some more feedstock? Surely that would solve the problem π
03.08.2025 23:30 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The Key years saw crude oil prices peak at close to USD150 and decline to ~USD30. That peak coincided with Kupe flowing and 'payback' expected in mere weeks. Those days are long gone but Jones fails to see reality and continues to flog the dead horse. NZ needs renewables or our lights will go out.

To all those naysayers who claim PV is of no use in winter, blue sky day here in the Naki, 11.2kW production ATM, both EVs are soaking up as much as they can and we're still exporting some to the grid.
19.07.2025 23:52 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Proves the point that home charging is crucial to EV (incl PHEV) economics. Assuming the DC charging was 85c/kWh that charge would have been <$10 based on off peak (or FIT loss) cost of ~17c/kWh (YMMV), so RUCs cost way more than charging.
