I really like The Prestige, it's one of my favorites. I like Memento and Inception, but Insterstellar was just okay. Tenet was awful and Oppenheimer is a meh movie behind dubious stylistic and narrative choices.

Yes! I used to like his movies, not because they were complex, but because they were fun. The came Tenet and I was like "my brother in Christ, you're leaning way too hard on this schtick"

That's because Nolan movies became synonimous of deep and intricate, even though is pretty direct in its messaging.

COP30 is going on in Brazil right now and it's upsetting to see our gvmt talking about climate change and preserving the Amazon, while there's an ongoing project to build a massive data center near a city that suffers with massive droughts. The datacenter is *progress*, not irresponsible, you see...

But aren't people just sharing their personal experiences to relate with the matter? Is this a race? Nobody told me that it was a race.

Here is a more detailed (and complete) explanation of the context in Rio by someone who works with human rights here:

The strategy of the right (which, btw, even some of the left here support), is to be "tough on crime" by sending all, cops and civilians alike, to the butcher's block, to "show results". It makes for a grotesque farse, which solves nothing, while deepening the divide between police and civilians.

Due to some of the discoveries, the far + center right passed legislation in congress last month to protect themselves from investigation (they would decide, by secret voting, IF they allowed investigations on them). People got righteously pissed and went to the streets, so they walked back on that.

The operation by the feds showed a way. Specially because it highlighted the reach of crime, by attacking money laundering: factions have gas stations, motels, even bakeries in high end neighborhoods. Not only that, but some connections to right wing politicians came up. And they showed their hand:

It's disheartening, it's grotesque, it's profoundly racist, it's aporophobic and it's applauded by a big part of the population (there's a phrase from them which is "a good criminal is a dead criminal"), which explains the absurd 1st reaction of msm media and why this keeps happening.

It has always been like this. In 2021, 28 people were massacred in a police action like this. They justify that these "operations" are to weed out criminals, but they just kill civilians (that are automatically labeled as criminals) while doing nothing to effectively fight crime.

Our mainstream media at 1st repeated the discourse from the police, saying that the then 60 dead were criminals with no proof (even if they were, we don't have the death penalty here). This morning, it reached 120 and now the discourse is changing. It's revolting. Everything about today is horrific.

The murder of civilians is not an accident, but a project (by dehumanizing its victims). As Elza Soares said, "the cheapest meat in the market is the black meat". And now, the secretary of security in Rio is accusing the people, who found the bodies of their loved ones, of commiting processual fraud

A recent federal police operation dismantled a financial arm of crime, targeting their reach in the financial sector, our equivalent of Wall Street. And they did this without firing a single shot. That was effective. That is what this governor is against.

29.10.2025 18:00 — 👍 7    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

No, it isn't. Elections are next year, he did this (number of dead already around 130) to say he fights crime unlike the federal government. At the same time, he's against a proposal from the federal gvmt to integrate the federal police in fighting organized crime. And, just last month...

... no one was protesting against his specific policies) and that paved the way to the rise of Bolsonaro and a political situation we are still dealing with, where the majority of our congress is made of the dumbest, shittiest, selfishest people alive, with no knowledge or regard for public policy.

With no real message on policy. It was just an outlet for anger and, because their message was so opaque and anti-political, it was incentivised by mainstream media. Meanwhile, destructive policies were still being done by the new president (afterall, despite having 4% approval...
