I plan to stop pulling new posts but leave the service up for a bit with this post at the top so people can see the notification if they're looking.
After that any remaining data will be deleted.

I'm a helpful little bot for managing muted words in feeds. See my posts for a guide on how to use. @orthanc.bsky.social created and runs me. https://github.com/orthanc/bluesky-mutebot

The docs are a little out of date, but if anyone really wants to pick it up and re-vitalise it ping me on my main @orthanc.bsky.social and I'll at least tidy up the definitions of the required SSM parameters so you can deploy and go from there.

Just incase anyone is still using this enough to notice, Mutebot is shutting down.
This feed existed to give some basic muting, but now we have that as a first party feature so it's not really needed.
I haven't been hacking on this for a while so it's time.

13.03.2024 07:12 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I'm going to be posting some posts to be used as in-feed updates.
If you see these in the next hour or so they probably don't mean what they say, but if they show up again later they do
New version of this on the beta feed to see if it works better.
This will drop reposts if reposts from a user would appear with less that two other posts between them so that we can generally still see the retweeets but they don't flood the feed by showing up as big clusters of reposts
Tweaking this slightly, initially it was "any more than 3 reposts from one person in the page of 30 posts" to start limiting.
That seems to be a bit to low, so I'm seeing if setting it to 5 out of 30 is a better level.
New experimental feature on the Beta Feed:
Limit the number of retweets from any given person that are shown.
The idea of this is that when someone is retweeting a whole thread or a bunch of replies they don't drown out other things in the feed.
Mutebot has dropped some reposts from your feed to prevent it being flooded with reposts by a single person.
(well that's what this will mean if it shows up again after being initially posted)
Huzzah! ๐
Bluesky now supports muting words.
So probably there's no real reason to keep using mutebot.
I'll continue to operate, at least for now, but really I'd recommend you use the actual app feature now if you can.
The mutebot cotnrol panel showing the "mute retweets" page with "retweets-all-politics.bsky.social" having retweets muted for ever and "fixated-on-something.bsky.social" with retweets muted for a few hours The time dropdown for adding a new retweet mute is expanded showing options between 1 hour and 1 year as well as a forever option
You can now mute retweets from specific accounts for the mutebot feed.
Have that friend who's just a bit too focused on something that doesn't interest you, mute their retweets for a while.
You don't need to @, but it should have worked even with that.
I can't see anything wrong and it's working for others.
Covering off the basic things, you have to leave the login site open while you send the post in the app or another tab.
The general instructions still apply:
bsky.app/profile/mute...
Screenshot of the mutebot control panel showing some words that are only temporarily muted and some where the mute has expired
Screenshot of the mutebot control panel showing changing the time a word is muted for with options ranging from 1 hour to 1 year
Mutebot now supports temporarily muting words. Sick of the discourse for just today? Mute away and it will unmute again automatically when the time is up.
As always, just login to mutebot.orthanc.co.nz to mute, unmute and change how long words are muted for
I did some digging, it looks like you follow very few people and so because of the way mutebot works the posts for your feed are just getting pushed out by other posts.
I'm changing the way the posts are stored for other reasons. You'll probably find the beta feed works
bsky.app/profile/did:...
Two monitoring graphs Duration showing a series of dots around 18 seconds, dropping close to 0 then jumping up to ~ 4 minutes Error count and success rate showing a switch from everything succeeding to everything failing at the same time as the timings change then back to everything succeeding
Can really see in the monitoring when it occurred and that he sync is still catching up.
03.02.2024 01:24 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The issue is fixed, mutebot is now catching up on the old posts. Normal service will resume shortly.
TLDR version of what happened. I wasn't correctly handling the case where a post is both added and deleted in the same batch write to the database and that blocked the sync of new posts.
Mutebot isn't pulling in new posts at the moment.
I'm investigating will update when it's addressed
Mutebot has been updated so that the site for muting and unmuting words mutebot.orthanc.co.nz will now work well on mobile and spotty connections.
24.11.2023 02:11 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 1If a muted word appears in any of the following places the post will be muted
1. Post text
2. Image Alt Text
3. Summary card for a website link
4. 1,2,3 of the post being replied to (if a reply)
5. 1,2,3 of the post being quoted (if a quote post)
It can take a minute or so for all the people you follow to start showing up after you first look at the feed due to working within the blue sky rate limits. So if you see an empty feed initially, refresh in a minute and it should work.
14.11.2023 08:27 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0To Mute and Unmute words:
1) Go to mutebot.orthanc.co.nz
2) Click Login

Mute and Unmute away
This works best on a computer, at some point I'll be updated to work better on mobile.
Mutebot is a custom feed that is basically the same as your following feed except that you can mute words you don't want to see.
I can't mute words on other feeds, pin the feed and use it instead of the built in following feed.
The filtering of replies and direct @ mention posts has also been changed:
A reply or @ mention post will only be shown if either:
1. It's replying to / mentioning someone who you follow
2. (new) It was re-posted by someone you follow
In either case, it will not be shown if it contains muted words
