Why would I comment on black America? Says more about you than me if youโ€™re mad Iโ€™m criticizing Jeffries. My criticisms have nothing to do with race. Suggesting he should be beyond reproach is just as bad as the current administration running a DEI program for unqualified white people.

Dick Gephart and Nancy Pelosi were both considered effective minority leaders. In fairness to Jeffries, Congress has never been this polarized and republicans are mostly voting strictly along party lines. I donโ€™t know why you keep bringing up race. Doesnโ€™t have any relevance.

Bottom line is heโ€™s been ineffectual. Perhaps he would be a better speech giver than minority leader. He just looks like an AIPAC shill when his number one concern is a Muslim running for mayor

Got it. Why not have someone else be minority leader, then? Nancy seemed to have gotten stuff done in that role. Perhaps he should spend more time opining about everything the current administration is doing wrong instead of denigrating an NYC mayoral candidate.

Could you enlighten me on how much heโ€™s done? MAGA republicans seem to be getting whatever they want.

Tillis is not facing any of these headwinds and still voted to confirm. The coward took a performative stance against the BBB in an effort to distance himself from the resulting stench but he showed his true colors here.

Theyโ€™ve already proven they donโ€™t need his vote to pass. Youโ€™re charitable and Iโ€™m cynical. Giving lip service as opposition doesnโ€™t cut it for me. Heโ€™s tacitly given Thune the green light by not doing more to oppose. He could be working with his โ€œconcerned โ€œ colleagues from AK and ME to derail this

Are you sure itโ€™s anything more than a performative vote? Funny how the R caucus always gets just enough votes. He happens to be the guy up for reelection in a potential swing state.

Itโ€™s hard to agree with your conclusion given Israel is the recipient of the largest amount of foreign aid from the United States. Iโ€™d argue IDFโ€™s current military campaign would be unsustainable with the increased military aid from the US

The consequences of such reforms are well-documented. Brazil's experience shows how political appointees lacking adequate expertise decreased administrative efficiency. In Hungary, politically motivated personnel decisions demoralized civil servants and led to a critical loss of organizational expertise. In Turkey, the Justice and Development Party (AKP) governments intensified anti-bureaucratic rhetoric, framing the bureaucracy as an extension of a privileged elite. This framing reinforced the populist dichotomy between the "pure nation" and the "enemy of the nation," positioning the AKP as the true representative of the people while portraying the bureaucracy as a "servant of a specific elite group" and, consequently, an "enemy of the people". Similar patterns emerged during Trump's first term, where expert staff were often viewed as "political resistance forces," leading to a devaluation of expert judgment and loss of organizational expertise as experienced staff resigned.

The closest parallels to Trump's changes to government are not in the private sector: they are Hungary under Orban, Brazil under Bolsonaro, or Turkey under Erdogan.
The removal of merit from public service is a form of administrative backsliding designed to serve democratic backsliding.

We're not done yet | 18F

I got laid off today, with the rest of 18F.

18F was an elite federal software shop. We made gov't websites work better, more efficiently for the American people. We saved taxpayers from getting screwed over by contractors. And were fired for it.

We made this website to tell our story:
