Wondering if you've ever read the book, "It's Complicated" by Danah Boyd. I have had it recommended to me and was told that it covers similars concepts to what you wrote about, but I haven't personally gotten to it yet. Has that book gone into what you wrote at all?

Do you think any of the 3 Frey challengers would be willing to bring Paris style urban transformation to Minneapolis?

It is in fact, Phyllis Roden who we can badmouth.

@dbrauer.net if you could help get my correction out, i don't want to badmouth Khan for something untrue.

Here. Maybe I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure that is her.

And/or maybe she was just a guest? Either way I'm at least positive it was Khan.

No it was Phyllis. She was sat next to me, but maybe she isn't in my precinct.

On some level that's just part of a city, if it isn't changing its dying. But people don't like change and so they try to resist the natural process. Plus we've seen all the issues that come about trying to restrict change by restricting new housing.
09.08.2025 21:26 β π 3 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
Please elaborate I don't know if I understand. You're saying cops don't protect wealthy white homeowners?
09.08.2025 21:24 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
Sorta. I think they fear increased taxes, which is misguided as Frey is the one leading that. I think they also fear losing the cops who will protect rich white homeowners above all else. I also think they fear anything outside of the ALLMIGHTY CAR being prioritized.

Remember, Fraud is Bad, unless our guy does is involved, then it's not actually that bad.
Did we say our guy was involved? No he never did fraud, it was always the other guy. DSA bad!

She was actually in my precinct, loring park. I'm guessing the Greenway condos but I am not totally sure.
09.08.2025 19:09 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
She was a delegate so must live somewhere in 7.
09.08.2025 19:08 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
And a lot of young people don't care enough about politics to be involved and make the change happen. I'm hoping Cashman can get renters and young people out, because Shaffer is the kind of, no change do what rich homeowners want, candidate that is the issue with so much of our city/politics.
09.08.2025 18:05 β π 6 π 1 π¬ 0 π 0
I'm not sure how to fix that issue either, I do think it's a lot of older lifelong DFLers who want to keep power and keep things going their way. They already own homes, so keeping the status quo is what benefits them, to the determinant of everybody else. They will fight to stop any change.
09.08.2025 18:05 β π 10 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0
Yeah, there probably is other reasons she dislikes Cashman, but I'm guessing there are not many actual policy things they would disagree on. Most of Cashman's positions are pretty data driven, here is what works stuff. Somehow looking at what works gets inflated with "Crazy Radical Socialist".
09.08.2025 18:05 β π 9 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0
It also amazes me that Khan was once a progressive feminist who appears to have done good work, when my only experiences with her are as a cranky, almost hateful person. It seems Khan dislikes Cashman solely because Cashman is young, though I am just speculating now.
09.08.2025 17:56 β π 11 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0
I responded saying, we can look it up as the voting record is public, but she just scoffed and turned away to ignore me. It sort of amazes me how someone prominent in the Minneapolis DFL does not know basic facts about council voting records, OR is willing ignorant to try and defeat a young person.
09.08.2025 17:56 β π 13 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0
She then said that Cashman was DSA and we had to get rid of her and that Cashman disliked police and wanted to defund them. I had to tell her that, no actually Cashman has never said defund the police and that she voted for a police budget increase. Khan told me that's a lie.
09.08.2025 17:56 β π 12 π 1 π¬ 1 π 1
Not a wild story, but I sat next to her at the Ward 7 convention. I and a couple of others were talking and somehow DSA came up. Khan scoffed, so I asked what scared her so much about the DSA. She said the DSA wants to defund the police and let criminals run wild in Minneapolis.

voting in favor of a new police contract that raises their salaries is not the actions of someone who wants to defund the police
