I am so excited to read it -- and I'm sure you are correct, because this is how I feel about the books of hers that are set in the part of NC I'm from. NAILED IT. So small quibble at the implication that this is a new aspect of her writing.

But mostly I am just very excited to read this book!

Turns out my apartment building's elevators are just about 10'6" at maximum internal length.

This was almost my worst "enh, it should fit" assumption to date. But God is good, all the time.

Last night, as I watched returns in the living room, my wife read in the bedroom. She found out the race had been called when she heard people outside yelling I LOVE NEW YORK

Chuck Schumer lives a 10-min walk from me. At least Gillibrand has the excuse of not having NYC as her brand.

MAGAs are so racist they made up a lie to scare Americans about Obama being a socialist and secret Muslim born in Kenyaβ€”and karma responded by electing a Ugandan born Muslim and proud democratic socialist to mayor of New York City.πŸ˜…

This, and very rural until roughly the 1960s, so unlike the rest of the city, built on white flight rather than immigration.

Can't wait to hear Cuomo say he didn't even want it anyway and it doesn't count because he wasn't really trying and also the sun was in his eyes.

I don't know if it's even possible to fully explain the insult to injury that is a supposed democrat only winning Staten Island.

She endorsed Mamdani in September. I wish it had been more enthusiastic, but it did happen.

I'm much more pissed off at Schumer, who lives walking distance from my place.

I'm really sorry to have subjected all of you to all this NYC posting but it's really been the most breathtakingly ugly race, particularly given that Mamdani has the affect and manner of a Sesame Street character

Remember, gang, if you’re yelling insults at ICE, stick to things that will be deeply humiliating if they’re read aloud in court. Consider β€œYour parents only love you out of obligation, not because they like you,” β€œl bet you jerk off to the Teletubbies” and of course, the Yo Mama joke.

We were kind of a hippie natural foods household in the 80s, which means we brought the *red* raspberry Kool aid and Jello.

"Hunt: If he does run the city as a communist, are you going to have any regrets?

Sliwa: Why should I have regrets? I trust people. People are going to make the choice. I'll live with the choice. I'd like them to choose me. But if perchance I lose on November 4th, I will improve, not move. I was born in this city. I was almost killed in this city. I'll die in this city. I'll be buried in this city."

I do not think he should be mayor, but this is so much healthier of an approach to take toward a democratic election than anything we are hearing from Andrew Cuomo. Cuomo is going to leave NYC the moment he loses. Sliwa seems to truly want to stay in this great city.

The very few people I encounter who are foaming at the mouth angry about Mamdani pretty clearly don't have much to go on beyond Islamophobia, and it's mostly just really sad to watch.

Please show me one actually socialist policy Mamdani is advocating for. I mean putting the means of production into the hands of the state, and 5 grocery stores does not count.

This is also true of frosh comp papers. All I can say is that if any of my former students did that in law school or beyond, it was not because no one had told them not to.
