Just saying.
Does everyone know that Bard is known for programs that let kids go to college after 10th grade? 15 years old.

The rich kids tend to have better control of things like subject/verb agreement, for reasons everyone knows.
The poor kids kick their asses at critical thinking.
This is also frustrating from the perspective of white people trying actively to root out their own learned racist bias. Because it treats racism as something innate and unavoidable, instead of something you can Do The Fucking Work to become free of.

(I had figured it out by grading time.)

And also! Being literate in the way you describe (nice metaphor, btw) is FUN. It just plain feels good to have the tools to explore and learn. Because that's what human brains are built to DO.
