4/4 Even if gangster horror musicals like #Sinners are not to your personal taste, you have to admit it’s an interesting time to live in where #film is seriously addressing the issue of race on this level — and audiences are buying it!

3/4 this #film is about the “sinners” who reject both forms of Christianity in favor of true Black liberation which #RyanCoogler suggests can only be achieved by financial independence from White cultural power structures.

2/4 a Christianity that either teaches Black people to silently endure the KKK while singing songs about going to Heaven someday — or else calls Black people to assimilate to liberal monoculture and lose their unique racial identity.

The way we remember the Nazis means if someone is not actively targeting Jews for genocide, then they can't really be Nazis. We need to start teaching that the root evil of the Nazis was ethno-nationalism or thinking national identity should be based ethnicity, whether German, White, or even Jewish

As a gentile, I humbly submit that all we remember is that the Nazis murdered six million Jews in extermination camps. Apparently "Never Again" only means "never let Jews be targeted for genocide again" rather than "never let ANYONE be targeted for genocide again"

For me, Mishima's sense of the unity of aesthetics/ethics was the missing link between Schrader’s films about the war between body/spirit like The Last Temptation and First Reformed on the one hand — and the violent right-wing loners like Taxi Driver and Raging Bull on the other hand.
