Weird, I'm German and I first heard that on the school playground in primary school. I didn't care and thought it was just the usual b*llocks that some kids come up with. Heard or read it a couple more times but didn't really give a toss.

Full of mistakes and unnatural language. Deaf people or non-natives would be screwed. So much for "AI can do so much for people with disabilities, it will cure the lame and make the blind see again", etc.

I recently watched a documentary on Amazon, which was dubbed into German. The translation was bad and at times plain wrong (obvious false friends, so *not* an LLM). For the hell of it, I turned on German subtitles and there was a message that they were AI-generated. They were abysmal.

People don't realise that there's inherent logic and rules to languages, too. They are *systems*, which these tech bros and managers don't understand and thus are both easily impressed by LLMs and baffled by their limits. Whereas I, a *linguist* mostly go "Yeah, I could have told you that."

Language/words/foreign languages has been my "thing" since I was very little and I made it my profession. It's always bugged me how being good at sciences and maths makes you a genius whereas language skills are viewed as a kind of necessary evil, like "somebody's gotta do it".

The other day I was musing whether "hallucinations" shouldn't be called "mirages". It's less anthropomorphising (making the model seem almost like a quirky mental patient) and describes it more like a natural phenomenon that occurs under certain conditions.

Wait, I thought agents were the next big thing *six months ago* and had already been proven not to work?! Or maybe I am too far ahead in the debunking cycle, which makes me feel quite avantgarde, lol.

Funnily, working with LLMs *did* give me an insight into this: almost all the errors they produced were due to a failure to understand these things!

I'm hoping for a 22 episode debunking / takedown podcast with at least 8 bonus episodes as more and more details come to light. Season 2 could be about the judicial proceedings (bit dry but I know there's nerds and freaks out there dying to lay it all out for listeners).
