I love that he's got both Kyle and Darrem making eyes at him - and Darrem is pansexual! It's a good queer show that hasn't tokenised the gay characters at all.

SNW (which I thought I wanted and enjoyed in its first season) is so beholden to feeling like an old Trek show that it has become a pale imitation. Almost a parody.

I came to like DIS when it felt more like Trek (exploration, ethical conundrums, planet of the week) but it never, ever felt like the 90s shows. It was always trying its own thing. Sometimes it was even great.

I think there's a scale here. I want it to feel like Star Trek, which SFA does. It doesn't need to be like the 60s show or the 90s shows. (Compare: first season DISCO, which didn't feel like Trek at all. Like, try something different, but remember which franchise you're in.)

One of the great problem with journalism prizes is that they are mostly awarded based on the year a piece is published and not once their true power has been recognized.

But if ever there were a case for a special award...it should go to Julie.

It feels very Trek, too. It is using the setting to its advantage. I am blown away at how good it is, given how variable the quality of streaming Trek has been.

Good opportunity for a left-ish party in Australia to start talking about a republic. They need something to start a conversation and inject themselves into the discourse. A radical re-imagination of how the country is governed and a break from sex-trafficking elites seems a good place to start.

1. Come, Letโ€™s Away
2. Beta Test
3. Vox in Excelso
4. Koโ€™Zeine
5. Kids These Days
6. Series Acclimation Mil *
7. Vitus Reflux

I'm a bit surprised that the first reactions I'm seeing are from people who think this is the weakest episode so far. For me, this does a lot more for the characters than say 1x03 which was fun (I like fun!) but not much more. #StarfleetAcademy

After the high stakes of last week, I appreciated this slow-paced episode that gave the characters some room to recover. The character arcs have been mapped out so well. #StarfleetAcademy

Incredible how much the media has spent talking about hate speech laws and yet none of the thousands of articles on Hanson mention she recently was found by a federal court of breaching hate speech laws.

I regularly see people wondering how it's possible that there are so many musicians and writers and film makers and artists from a tiny nation like Iceland.

And the answer is really simple: State funding for art education and artists. I literally get a salary from the government to write books.
