This is going to be some weird variation of β€œthere are people who are wrong on the internet!!!”

The real life people are wrong and the vegan sautΓ©ing, roasting, baking, and braising folks on the internet are right.

If she ever shows up in Central New York I can ask her to sign a resentful (and currently very chilly) chihuahua. No goats in Albuquerque from me, alas.

The US has a lengthy and undistinguished history of fucking with the governments of countries in Latin American in the name of β€œfighting communism” or β€œfighting drugs”. And here we go again.

Short PSA/hijack: Fleet enemas are potentially toxic to dogs and cats, so this is one of those times where the narrator’s voice should be saying”don’t try this at home” (leaving all issues homicidal felines aside ;)

I feel seen. I’m watching Die Hard while wrapping, not so much because I like the movie, but more because lots of swearing and machine gun fire fits my mood.

Another upvote for the air fryer/toaster oven combo. I love mine and it doesn’t eat counter space. I have a KitchenAid

A black Olds 98 coupe. This car is big enough to qualify for a zip code. The gas mileage is such that the fuel gauge will visibly drop at highway speeds. It is sitting in a barnyard and there is a guy in a baseball cap washing it. Only qualifies as getaway car if you have access to racing gasoline.

The Batmobile. Currently not street legal, but maybe someday….

Couldn’t agree more. IMO everyone who thinks that the Epstein files are going to result in anything other than a lot of social media outrage is doomed to disappointment.

In other words, there isn’t an easy way out here

This post caught me making apple bourbon maple jam wherein the apples were chopped with a Japanese-style cleaver and I’m working on a countertop cluttered by a peppermill, and an electric kettle.

FWIW, a number of municipalities in California use goat herds for brush control, which reduces fuel and fire risk. Could be that this is where the goat in question was employed.

My husband and I were discussing globalization the other day. I used the example of the Cusco you described growing up in and the Cusco you post about now.

My opinion (which is worth considerably less than an inflationary two cents) is that I don’t think the dollar is going up significantly anytime soon.

Thank you for this thread! Last night I was trying to remember what other unpleasant zoonotic diseases prairie dogs carry, and this was just the reminder I needed to look it up.

By the way, the answer is Mpox.

I embroider because knitting is too hard (plus I like stabbing things with sharp objects)

A partial embroidery project featuring a line of Hungarian braided chain stitch and a fern whose stem is made from Portuguese knotted stem stitch. Neither stitch is particularly even.

Have you ever noticed that if the name of the stitch contains any European country, the stitch is likely to be a pain in the neck?

Thanks a lot for the earworm Abby!

Andy is a very good cat.

My experience with cats has been that upon observing that I am sick or in pain, they are likely to either stand on the most painful part of my body possible or vomit on the bedspread.

FWIW, I’m generally impressed at how well cats heal from cat bites, once they get medical care. People, on the other hand, don’t heal from cat bites well at all.

Even with no Ongoing Bodily Fuckery, Shingrex and my first dose of Moderna were good for 36 hours in bed, shivering, each. Most side effects I’ve ever had from vaccines, including rabies (both pre and post exposure).

And a huge improvement over getting any of the above viruses.
