I don’t care about sticking up for orthodox accounts of anything. Nor do I care about presenting an ideal account of Calvinism. No such thing exists, and I won’t pretend that it does.

Let’s just say I’m offering a different reading.

If that’s the case, then, under this reading (which I think flows well with most readings in the tradition), that Jesus’s life, ministry to others, and his death on the cross are all part of the same story, then the reading offered by the snipped image is a bit, well, off.

Since Calvinism is getting locked up into this, and rightfully so given many of its variants, I’ll just say (as a Presbyterian), that I follow Schleiermacher (Calvinist): one should not separate Christ’s life with what happened on the cross. Meaning, the Gospel’s inform what took place there.

And here it is. Property rights and a market economy cannot survive this authoritarian assault.
